Does anyone do CDX capacitor replacements?

Post by deathsled »

I'm pretty sure I've got some bad caps in my CDX. CD games play just fine, but whenever I play a cartridge based game I've got some strange graphical problems. There is a lot of flashing and the red seems to drop out from time to time.

I think it's weird that it only happens with cart games since I would imagine they're all going through the same video encoder. I've tried cleaning my cartridge slot and it does seem to work better for a short period of time, but then the problem always comes back. I think it has more to do with turning the unit off and then back on than it does with cleaning the slot.

Any recommendations?

Yeah a few of us have them lol.

This graphical thing is really killing my Pier Solar experience....

Sometimes it works fine throughout an entire gaming session, but I'd like it to be fine 100% of the time haha.

Do you by chance have a way to check Master System mode, or RGB video? Almost never used stuff CDX offers. That excellent-if-working machine is more feature packed than people think!

Those 8bit games. Power Base Converter works on the CDX.

Oh sick, I actually have a reason to buy one, then! Any tricks to it, or does it just plug in and work?

It's a tight fit. Mainly around the power cable. Plugs right in. Can't open the CD drive but 8bit games don't use that.

The main issue is price. Converters have gotten so expensive today, it's more cost effective to get a console. :(

But I don't feel like having a lame normal Genesis console taking up space on my shelf that BARELY fits a CDX (seriously if it weren't for the CDX I would have to put away another console to fit a Genesis in there). Gametrog.com sells the converters for 49.99 (59.99 in box), but I don't know how reliable they are.

EDIT: Yes, that is still significantly more expensive than an actual master system, but that's hardly the point...

Well I'm pretty sure US and PAL converters are identical, given the same cartridge shape. It shouldn't matter whichever you find.
