First Five Games to Buy for Your Sega Master System
Re: First Five Games to Buy for Your Sega Master System
You had me at Wonderboy III and Zillion.
Since everyone else is contributing, I'd go with:
Astro Warrior
Zillion
Wonderboy III
Fantasy Zone
Bomber Raid
But...I won't ask you to make any of these an honorable mention or have you put them in your list, everyone's taste varies. I really liked your article, and I'll pick up Govellius!

You might want to mention that the 'few other systems' that Golvellius was released on was the MSX. And that the SMS version has enhanced graphics and different layouts than that version.
Wouldn't want people to pass it over thinking they could just nab an NES port or something, would we?

I always like seeing the Master System get some play. But if you want more varied genre representation I'd go with:
Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap (pretty much the undisputed best SMS game)
Zillion
Phantasy Star
Double Dragon
and Hang On (which is OK) / Safari Hunt (which I love to death and will forever maintain as the best light gun game ever for some reason)
With (+5) Honorable Mentions: Choplifter, Penguin Land, Shinobi, Rampage and California Games (no joke)

Yeah, Phantasy Star is a pretty glaring omission. Especially considering it is likely the best 8-bit RPG ever made.

I was going to post my top 5, but this is pretty much it.alienjesus wrote:My 5:

I'd give an honourable mention to Castle of Illusion, Sonic the Hedgehog, Lucky Dime Caper and Asterix too.lisalover1 wrote:Yeah, Phantasy Star is a pretty glaring omission. Especially considering it is likely the best 8-bit RPG ever made.
