I'd personally replace Outrun with Alex Kidd, simply because Outrun's so easily available on a bunch of other platforms.
I'd probably personally find a way to squeeze Phantasy Star into there too.

Well I tired to make the list accessible to starting your collection. As in you can just pretty much have money ready and probably grab some of these pretty quickly.
Alex Kidd has become a little harder to get recently usually listed towards $30+. Time and effort can get it for around $15 to $20 though, but it takes time.
All the others run $15-$20 on average (besides Shinobi and Out Run) but time gets them even cheaper. So the idea is you just bought a system, here are 5 great games to get without spending another chunk of money.
I probably should put Phantasy Star in the honorable mentions list. I don't consider it accessible right out of the gate.

I see multiple BIN listings on ebay right now for Alex Kidd In Miracle world that are well under $30 complete.
All of the completed listings right now are under $20.
(That said, the game is more expensive now than it seemed to be when I bought my copy. Strange.)

Besides the oddball 2.99 cart only
The other 5 are all nearing $30 or over $30. There is one auction still going with shipping it is at $15.
Yes I know completed ones go for $15 to $20 that is why I said that. But they aren't listed every day. Alex Kidd has gone up and seems like it is going to continue to.

I was looking for an AK not too long ago and was surprised by ppls asking price. I was looking for a CIB, but I think a loose should still be had on the cheap.KDub wrote:Alex Kidd has gone up and seems like it is going to continue to.
I know you mentioned that you have not played all the SMS games, but please do yourself a favor and got on that R-type! All your picks are good IMO, Zillion being the 'meh-ist of the lot. I would remind new SMS owners to not pass on the pack-in, HangOn, it's a solid game.

Enjoyed the article.
My list would be:
Wonder Boy III
Galaxy Force
Zillion II
R-Type
Reggie Jackson's Baseball (one of the best baseball games ever)
Also think Space Harrier and After Burner deserve a nod.

I considered Space Harrier because I really love Space Harrier in general and the SMS port. But I don't feel like it is one of those that would wow a new comer to the SMS so I left it off.
You guys are giving me more and more ideas for the honorable mention part though haha.
