PS3 controller is moving left and right randomly??? help?

I turned on my ps3 today and i noticed my menu screen kept scrolling right and left randomly without me touching anything. If I press any direction on the stick it will respond correctly in whatever direction, but then continue to just randomly move just left and right when i let go. If I hold the stick up or down it will not move left and right until i let go. I have tried everything including resetting the controller. The controller is like brand new and has been barely used. Any hep would be awesome.

Have you tried using a different controller?

It sounds like your analog stick is a bit loose. My oldest controller is like this if you 'pop up' the left analog (L3). I just don't use that controller anymore. If possible exchange it. Maybe someone else on these boards have a good 'fix it' solution?
