Attack of the Spambots

Sorry for all the downtime today. Spambots were attacking the server heavily today.
Hopefully we have most of them blocked now....

I knew bots were behind this. I just assumed they were giant killer RObots, though.

Good to have the site back. Work is pretty boring without these forums. :D

Been a sad day for me too, actually just spent it playing Half Life 1 :P . You only realise how much you miss something when it's gone. Thanks for keeping s updated Racket. Those spam posts are so annoying!

Well it wasn't the same spammers you've seen on the forum necessarily.
I think it was more targeted at leaving spam comments/trackbacks on the blog.
One bot was making 100s of attempts a second.
It was essentially becoming a DOS attack.
If you're gonna spam, at least don't bring the server to its knees....

That sucks, I just assumed it was like the stuff I saw on the boards last time, like cheap Nokia phones, iPhones etc. I don't know why they think that works, you can tell its going to be a scam a mile off! Oh, and the post about Shutter Glasses made made me think of spambots, but it seems to be legit :P

Could be worse. Another forum I visit gets two or three bots a day for porn. It's gotten pretty aggravating, the Bot topic is about 25 pages long of us just naming who's a bot.

Glad it seems to be resolved. Work was insanely long without checking on the forum as I usually do.
