NEED HELP ON PLAYING SATURN BACKUPS PERFECT

Post by dicipleofchrist81 »

Hello i need some help with some of the saturn backups i got. (i have a pal oval button saturn :D)

First of all i have burnt Marvel vs Streetfighter (region patched and not patched) perfect on a light green underside cd-r (verbatim) and i have also a 4 in 1 action replay card (white colour) and the problem is:

-game boots perfectly
-game loads perfectly
-intro doens't play all the way and sound isn't smooth
-when playing sound isn't smooth and backgrounds aren't complete

These problems i got with most of 4 meg games

These are the othergames that don't play 100%:

Xmen vs Streetfighter - laggy sound and background problem
Xmen: children of the atom - screech sound problem
Elan doree - must repeat boot alot and intro problem
Groove on Fight - sound is gone when i boot from 4 in 1 card
Vampire Savior: lords of vampire - sound of the announcer and tounts are double
NBA jam exteme - must swap multiple times with an original game to even play

Some games i boot without 4 in 1 card work fine but when i boot with the 4 in 1 card the sound it most of the time the big problem.
i tested it with Asuka 120% and when i booted without the card it works fine with sound and all and when i boot with the 4 in 1 card there is no music.

Question: is a modchip better and solve all of this or can i stick with swap?

Modchip won't help the game issues after booting.
Modchip will make booting easier.

As for the in game problems here's a few possibilities:
Bad games image (ISO, BIN/CUE, etc)
Bad CD-R media
Your Action Replay has issues.

Since its more than one game, its probably not the image files.
What kind of CDrs do you use and what speed do you burn at?

Have you tried any games without the cart in?

Ok since you are in Europe, my guess is it's a 50/60hz PAL/NTSC problem with the 4meg games. None of the games that required the ram carts were ever released in Europe, and therefore you need to a 50/60hz selector modded to your Saturn to get them to work perfectly. As for the Action Replay, I'm not sure as I've never used one really.

Link dump, the top link is the ultimate fix, as it also does the region mod for you so you dont need to patch games or use the cart. The others just provide reading and pictures of the process. You cant research enough if you have never attempted anything like this. The last link shows the benefit of using this with pal games as it can improve some of the poor ports we received :)

I just cut the track and soldered direct to pin 79 and it worked fine for me as i couldnt find my exact mobo, and was happy soldering ot the cip, but if you are unsure this can be risky.
