What Anime are you Currently Watching?/Anime Recommendations

I'm watching/re-watching Trigun.

I say it like that because I know I watched a few episodes while it was on TV, but I can't remember what they were about (I don't remember what time it was on, but it must have been too late for me because my memory is really fuzzy). Anyway, I never watched the whole thing, so I'm doing so now.

Always liked Trigun a bit more than Bebop myself back in the early AS days. It gets really awesome in the second half, just know ahead of time that... it's not very conclusive. But alas that's not uncommon with a lot of ~25 episode anime shows out there.

Started watching Occult Academy on Crackle. Pretty fun show so far(3 eps in). Some of the cliches and tropes have me rolling my eyes but that just comes with anime territory these days.

Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni and Umineko No Naku Koro Ni are good ones when it comes to horror anime. Shigurui Death Frenzy is also enjoyable, especially if you love classy, gory samurai deaths. Furthermore, Elfen Lied is pretty sad and gory at the time.

Japan doesn't really do horror anime all that well, but I can recommend some things with horror themes. Demon Lord Dante is cool if you like extremely over-the-top stuff - it's by Go Nagai (king of over-the-top manga/anime). I remember really liking it; it has human sacrifice, serial murder, Satanists, mass destruction, a giant demon, and is all around a fun time! It can't easily be summarized beyond "crazy stuff happens" but that's pretty much what it is.

I liked Hell Girl too, although it sticks very much to a formula. The series is based on a premise that there's a website you can only access at midnight and you can enter someone's name who you want revenge on and the eponymous Hell Girl (and her crew) will take them to hell. The catch is that by entering the contract, you doom yourself to hell when you die. Every episode revolves around different people who use that website, so it's all revenge stories.
I only saw the first season but I assume the second and third are just more of the same. Very formulaic and not for everyone, but I liked it!

Boogiepop Phantom is where it's at. The only real "horror" series I enjoyed a lot. I remember watching really crappy video rips of it a long time ago, and it kind of made it even better. haha... but yeah definitely check this one out.

There's obviously other stuff that bends the line, like Monster perhaps. Depicting how messed up some people in the world can be (pretty realistic and scary).

Monster was great. It creeped me out more than a lot of stuff with actual ghouls or monsters in it.

New Sailor Moon Anime next year?!?!

YES! At this point if I can't get season 5 I'll take whatever the hell they'll give me.



....I wonder if they'll stick closer to the manga this time....
