I didn't even know they sold game consoles out there honestly, it's never really mentioned with places consoles are released. Oh well, you learn something new everyday.
Or does he just import surrounding country's consoles?

Perhaps, but I'm guessing he understands english? Because on any search on the internet will bring you pokemon, especially if it's gaming related searches.
I'm kind of curious why it seems to have bothered you that he asked for our opinions. Sure he can look up Pokemon on Google and learn about it but the whole conclusion of his post was wanting our opinions to determine if he should try the series out.

It doesn't bother me, nor was i asking him to google it. I helped him as well as others have.
Honestly, if I wanted to do that I would have been an ***hole and send him here: GIYF.
I was curious as to how he had no idea about pokemon. I now know that that can be attributed to his location in the United Arab Emirates. I still would appreciate the answer to how he doesn't know from him though.

Pretty sure it's Bahrain; he was the one we went to when we were discussing all the protests and stuff there.

That's true.

Probably very easy to import. He has mentioned that stores regularly beat the street date of games released in the US.

I disagree with this. My father plays Pokémon and he's close to 60 years old.
I'm playing Pokemon FireRed right now and yes the games are madly addicting. They're a bit easy, but it's fun to try to capture the Pokemon and strategize on the perfect team. I have to say Bulbapedia has been REALLY useful for this. If you use this compare different Type advantages and base stats.
I would suggest starting with FireRed and LeafGreen because they are the first games with not as much of a huge selection of Pokemon and has no extra mechanics introduced in later generations (eg no frills Pokemon). The remakes include in-game help for those who never played Pokemon before by explaining/demonstrating how the games work through pressing an L/R triggered help screen. There's also stuff in game to explain how to catch Pokemon etc. Should be no problem getting the gist on what the series is about through those remakes! Plus, the music is simply phenomenal, IMO (compared to the rest of the series). THEN I would say move on to Gold/Silver/Crystal.
On a side-note I really wish Game Freak made a remake of Crystal because there is a TON of stuff added that wasn't in Gold/Silver.
Uhh, didn't HeartGold and SoulSilver include nearly everything that was in Crystal? The special rooms in the Ruins of Alph, Eusine, the Suicune events, Kurt being able to make several of the same type of Poké Ball at once, Buena's Password... am I missing anything else? Only thing that I can think of that didn't make the cut was the original female MC design in Crystal, but we can still choose to play as a girl.
Really? I only assumed they weren't in there just based off the fact they're called HeartGold/SoulSilver. Haven't played them myself so I apologize for my ignorance there!
That makes me very excited and happy to hear! Thanks for the info.

Well in my defense I did say kind of, because I do know of many, many exceptions, just not out and about IRL. I do want to get back into Pokemon and relive those memories, but just the simplicity of it, ease factor, and the grinding just keeps me at bay.
I mean if you still enjoy them, I envy you, because I really want to, but I can't.
