Whatever happened to these developers?

Post by JC48573 »

You guys know what I'm talking about. The jrpg queens from last generation.

Atlus - Shin Megami Series and Persona

Konami - Suikoden

Media Vision - Wild Arms

Capcom - Breath of Fire

Square Enix - Front Mission

Game Arts - Grandia and Lunar (still waiting for a remake of Eternal Blue)

They are the same as ever AFAIK.
Konami - Suikoden
Konami's doing just fine as well. There's two new Metal Gear games on the way.
Capcom - Breath of Fire
Capcom's gone to the dogs this gen, I'll give you that. I'd like to hear the reasons why they did so, if anyone knows. Why would a respectable company suddenly decide to suck?
Square Enix - Front Mission
Square Enix hasn't been any good since they were Squaresoft.

Suikoden was never a huge franchise in Konami's eyes I'd like to believe. It was obvious since the games never got extensive coverage like their other stuff and whatnot. Now the series lives on but only on handhelds... like a lot of JRPG's thesedays.

Capcom started sucking hardcore because they started outsourcing so much and tried way too hard to cater to the West, and lost themselves in the process. May as well add Breath of Fire to the dead Megaman, Onimusha, good Resident Evil, etc pile. Because everyone wants more Lost Planet, Dead Rising, or horrible Resident Evil spinoffs. They also lost all their good creative leads. Megaman dude, Devil May Cry dude, and the Resident Evil dude (too lazy to look up the spellings right now). Good Capcom are now Suda / Platinum Games.

I know what you mean, but I'm pretty sure Resident Evil: Revelations would like to have a word with you.

Dead Rising (the original, at least) was a somewhat original and interesting game. Sure, the premise wasn't that great, but the gameplay was different and refreshing at the time.

Suda and Platinum are just about the only reason to buy ANYTHING from Capcom anymore...

On subject though, Atlus seems to be the only one staying on track of these, sadly. I honestly wish they would try and do more in the industry, becasue they really know what they're doing. (Cubivore!! Ok, not an RPG, but still.)

I just hate when the goods end up landing on handhelds. I know people will hate me for saying it, but it's always disappointing to me. Never been big on handhelds and probably never will be thanks to neck issues. lol, oh well.

Media.Vision is still around, they're most recent work was Valkyria Chronicles III. You know... that game we never got. Hm.

I like to think that perhaps that they're just giving the series a break. They pumped out a lot of those games for PS2.

Oh yeah, I know what you mean. I don't understand why they didn't spend the effort that they did with Revelations as they did the new console titles. Seems pretty stupid considering those games are coming out on proven consoles which would equal more profit, but then again handhelds are big in Japan, don't quote me on this but I believe even bigger than consoles.

I mean I don't have a problem with it being on a 3DS, it is the only current gen console I have at the moment, unless you consider PC to be a part of this modern gen.

Oh, and pick up Kid Icarus and use it's stand to alleviate your neck problems, though if you don't have a 3ds already go ahead and wait for the XL, bigger screen, less strain on neck and eyes.

Yup, I'm glad the handhelds are getting a little bigger. Will probably be easier on me. I saw a friends Vita and liked using it a lot, and the DS and 3DS XL's look pretty awesome. So I might have to get some of those eventually.
