How many RPGs have you played?

Post by racketboy »

This is more of a curiosity thing, but I'm wondering how many of you have played a ton of RPGs. Also curious what percentage of them you have actually completed...

I've probably played about 10 different RPGs and gotten, on average, about 20% completion.

Probably 150, and I've finished maybe 20 of them.

I would have to say about 60 or so, and I've finished all but a handful.

I've played these 7:

Shining the Holy Ark - finished
Panzer Dragoon Saga - finished
Final Fantasy 9 - finished and apart from 1 card I 100% this one
Final Fantasy 8 - got halfway thru before giving up
Final Fantaty 3 DS - Still occasionally grinding the Crystal tower
Zelda The Minish Cap - about 3/4 thru
Zelda OoT - Still playing

On the whole I find them pretty enjoyable but I dont have the time or the attention threshold anymore. In fact I increasingly find myself going for games that are shorter becuase it gives me a more obtainable goal - I hate leaving a game part finished.

You can't really count MMORPGs, but I've played a few of those, too: Ultima Online, Asheron's Call, Everquest, Guild Wars, EvE, Dungeons & Dragons Online...

Honestly, I don't really have time anymore. And I'm surprised I've beaten as many as I have. Usually I'll get bored of playing about halfway through and quit right there, never to get back to it.

Jeez I was thinking around 30, but when I made a list just off the top of my head it was a shade over 70 and I have beaten the vast majority of them. Although that number might vary quite a bit if you choose to discount RPG hybrids (action, strategy/tactical, FPS, etc.), and I didn't count RPGs I hadn't played for more than an hour. Either way that's somewhat distressing.

I basically only play the occasional PC RPG nowadays.

I have probably played around 60 RPGs, and I have finished just about all of them. I am counting RPG hybrids though.

I am actually trying to complete all Genesis RPGs. The idea started a couple of years ago when I was curious what RPGs the Genesis had to offer (after reading the SNES vs. Genesis RPG debate). Before starting on my quest, I had only played the two Shining Force games (both of which I enjoy very much).

There are 41 RPGs for the Genesis (at least by sega-16's count, and that is what I am going off of) that are in English (I cannot read Japanese, otherwise, I would have a few more games I would have to finish). I have 6 left to finish right now.

I think next I will complete all the of the Saturn RPGs (there aren't too many, and from what I read, most are very enjoyable). From there I might go ahead and finish every English released RPG for Sega consoles. I guess I also eventually need to complete all SNES RPGs so I can do a comparison.

The posted results are making realize that something might be wrong with me. I go into every RPG expecting something great, and I'm almost always disappointed and so I don't finish them. There's just something that always lures me into this genre, even though I don't like it much. I tend to just try every one of them I can.

I'm kinda the same way.
I think it's the repetition and wandering that eventually turn me off.
