Ever since I've been in Japan I found collecting for the AES to be a lot more affordable. Finding games for as low as $5 complete in box. So I have been accumulating a decent sized collection of AES games and playing through all the famous series' such as Samurai Showdown, Fatal Fury, World Heroes, etc. After playing them and figuring out my favorites of the series I decided to read about the games online to see what other people have to say. Personally of the Samurai Showdown Series games that I own 3 has to be my favorite since it incorporates a really nice dodging system and everything from 1 and 2 has been greatly smoothed out. Fatal Fury 3 is also my favorite of the series because of how you can go into the foreground and background. These small additions to the fighting games make them stick out so much from the others.
I want to know how you feel about any of these games and why. Which are your favorites? What other games have these small little additions that greatly affect the way you play the game?
The links show the games that I have played/own

The smell and touch ....of AES
To be honest, the Jp games are better for collecting. The English games are definitely more valuable, but the market is flooded with copies, fakes, and conversions.
I knew they were cheap in Japan, but not that cheap. Look for good deals on the later games, because those are the ones people want.
I always loved SS2 because of the character line up, but I have SS3 in my 4 slot right now. It's a perfect mix of technical features and style. Most people overlook SS series, but it's a very different style of fighting that's refreshing. I will take SS over FF any day.

I've only played them on the MVS cabinets and on compilations like SNK Arcade Classics and Metal Slug Anthology.
That said, here's my favorites:
-Aero Fighters
-Last Resort
-Magician Lord
-Metal Slug 1-5
-Samurai Shodown 1-3
-Sengoku 1 & 2 (I never have played #3)

I think Last Resort is an underrated shooter. The music is pretty good, especially for an older game.

Re: AES Games and what you think about them
Is the English market really that bad? I really didn't intend on buying American games because of the prices being so high, but I didn't know that fakes were a problem. The later games are still expensive in Japan at around $150-$300 but that is still certainly much cheaper than American releases. I really like SS for it's weapon combat. I am tired of the usual fist and foot fighting games.sneth wrote:The smell and touch ....of AES

Magician Lord and Aero Fighters are really really good. I wish Aero Fighters was a cheaper series though. How come nobody really talks about SS 4, 5, or 5 Special? I've always wanted to play Last Resort too but I never really heard much about it.BurningDoom wrote:I've only played them on the MVS cabinets and on compilations like SNK Arcade Classics and Metal Slug Anthology.

My friend here purchased the first sengoku game and honestly I wasn't very impressed. Although, we were playing on the AES so it really didn't require any skill being able to continue as much as want. I'll try the second one and see how that goes. I'd imagine it is much more fun playing at an arcade.ExedExes wrote:You need to. Like, seriously.BurningDoom wrote:-Sengoku 1 & 2 (I never have played #3)

Man I am jealous that you can get your hands on complete games for that cheap
I always heard it was far cheaper to get AES games over there but I never imagined in single digits
I love my AES, but have given up collecting...
