Re: Video Pinball
I've been playing a lot of Pokémon Pinball on GBA lately, I don't suppose anyone else has that and wants to compare high scores?
Re: Video Pinball
Any help here? How do you have a strategy in a pinball game? I feel like I just hit the flipper when the ball is near.Stark wrote:Any pointers for a newbie? The last video pinball game I played was Alien Crush ...

You should read the instructions so you know how to "beat" the tables and/or how to score the biggest points. Each table has slightly different physics/speed usually, so mastering each one is part of the fun.Stark wrote:Any help here? How do you have a strategy in a pinball game? Thanks. I feel like some of it, is I just don't understand the rules though. Like take Arabian Nights, I think it is. You shoot the ball and there is a snake charmer? And sometimes I get a special score for charming the snake? But how did I do it? I don't see the indicator that I'm shooting for.dsheinem wrote: You should read the instructions so you know how to "beat" the tables and/or how to score the biggest points. Re: Video Pinball
My best advice in no particular order:Stark wrote:Any help here? How do you have a strategy in a pinball game? I feel like I just hit the flipper when the ball is near.Stark wrote:Any pointers for a newbie? The last video pinball game I played was Alien Crush ...
1. Learn how to juggle the ball with your flippers when the ball descends. I sometimes hold up to four balls at once on multiball and prudently send them upwards to collect multiple bonuses/multipliers, etc.
2. Learn the rules! Each table has specific goals to help you achieve that masterful score.
3. Spend some time with one table before moving on. Each table has its own quirks.
4. Play calm yet twitchy.
5. Have fun!

Re: Video Pinball
A successful charm is know as a skill shot. Notice how the snake is in one of 3 baskets? The strength of your launch (pull of the plunger) determines whether or not you'll strike the snake. Sometimes a light pull is key and sometimes you just need to drill that baby.Stark wrote:Thanks. I feel like some of it, is I just don't understand the rules though. Basic strategy: Any time it says "shoot for jackpot" just hit any of the ramps. You're bound to do ok thereStark wrote:Thanks. I feel like some of it, is I just don't understand the rules though. Funny I wasn't terribly fond of Ripley when the core game released. NowvI'm really starting to appreciate the shrunken head bonuses and trying to initiate Atlantis.

Re: Video Pinball
This is not a good game for high score comparisons. It is relatively easy to get extra balls. I managed to basically "go infinite", by stockpiling up to 9 balls (the maximum) and being good enough to recover back up to 9 if I lose one (and with a buffer of several balls, it would take an incredibly bad streak to make me lose). The limit to my score is no longer skill but rather patience. It is possible to max a table, I don't know if anyone has done it legitimately though, I looked at the possible maximum and decided it wasn't worth the huge amount of hours.alienjesus wrote:I've been playing a lot of Pokémon Pinball on GBA lately, I don't suppose anyone else has that and wants to compare high scores?
Don't get me wrong, I love the game, I think the tables are very well designed and the game engine is possibly the best among GBA pinball games.
My scores before going infinite were over 10 000 000 000 in both tables. When I managed to recoup balls that I lost faster than I lost them, I got fed up at over 33 000 000 000 in the Sapphire table, I think that is a third of the maximum score. I decided that was good enough to prove to myself I could go to 99 000 000 000 and that there were better uses of my gaming time.
Ivo.
