So what have you guys been watching lately?

Yeah, I'm gonna give The Wire another shot. Between the weird cop lingo, the ridiculous usage of the F bomb, and the rather mediocre acting, I just felt like I couldn't relate to these characters. They don't seem like real people to me. I felt like I was watching cop caricatures. Seriously.

But I'm watching The Wire because of all the acclaim it receives so I'm gonna seriously give a chance before I give up on it, much like Mad Men. I'm going to try to stick with MM at least til the end of the first season. And I'm going to try and watch at least five episodes of The Wire to see how I feel about it then, but that first episode was putting me to sleep.

Anyone else watching Newsroom? I thought the first two episodes were really solid...

Pilot was great. Not so much afterword.

I have heard that, but two episodes in I am still enjoying it. Not sure if/when it will supposedly go down hill...

That link reminds me that Louie is back on too - anyone watching it? I love Louie CK's standup (he's likely my favorite living comedian), but his show is just a bit uneven for my tastes. I feel like I have to slog through 2-3 mediocre episodes for every brilliant one. The season premiere last week was kinda meh.

That is a bold statement that I would support.

Pamela Aldon apparently isn't with the show anymore, and Chatman is filling the spot. Think it is good as ever, but that could change things.

The drops of knowledge from LCK really are the best. I forget the exact words but while talking about being divorced: "I'm not sad, I'm alone".

I imagine that's how it probably feels.

I went and signed up for HBO GO. This is pretty awesome. They have all of Deadwood and The Sopranos and pretty much every show HBO's ever done available for viewing, including The Wire. There's enough TV on there to keep me busy for a while.

I just watched Mad Men episode eight The Hobo Code and I feel like I've reached a turning point here. Suddenly the show is getting really interesting. I'm finding the Peggy/Pete thing interesting and I loved

Did anyone else feel like Jesse would have been just fine working under Gus? Walter wasn't having it though. He was determined to kill Gus and retain control over Jesse for a long time, but clearly he kind of screwed Jesse over to get his way. In the end, knowing what we know about where the poison came from(which I knew as soon as that kid was in the hospital), Gus actually looked like the lesser of two evils here. Oh Walt, you despicable bastard you!

I loved the badass bringing the cartel down moment by the way, particularly when we saw Jesse regulating on those thugs. I need to play this Rage game and see if it'll make me a badass with a gun too

Jesse is my favorite character by the way, along with Saul. I want a lawyer like that. Seriously :)
I dont think it was an issue of controlling jesse, it was an issue of needing jesse. Without him he had almost no chance of getting to gus.

Funny thing is, Walt has always needed Jesse. He just never admits it. I do think Walt has a fatherly love for Jesse though, whether he realizes it or not. It was pretty evident when he accidentally calls Walt Jr. Jesse.

On a side note, I kind of see Jesse as the hero of this story and Walt as the real villain. I think we will really see that play out in season 5. They are both criminals, but Jesse has a conscience. We've seen Walt's conscience whittling away little by little in each season though and notice how much easier Walt is able to process and deal with all the crazy shit him and Jesse have to do, while Jesse seems to lose a little bit more of his soul with every bad thing he does.

Just finished the first season of Mrs. Brown's Boys, it was okay, not as funny as many of my friends had made out it was.
