The iPhone has more apps and better reliability but is less tweakable/configurable than Android. I've had PDAs since the early 90s and owned a slew of pricey smartphones before buying the iPhone 4. I have never owned a portable device that has been more versatile, sturdy, and enjoyable. I'd suggest getting the iPhone so you can see what all the fuss is about. It's a case of well-deserved hype.

Though if you can wait until the end of the summer/early fall, you'll probably be able to get the iPhone 5.

Well to be fair to WP7, the thing lacking is apps/games. So ... if that's not important to you, then there's a lot to like about the UI choices that Windows Phone represents. As someone who's messed around with all three, I would probably choose iPhone. I think the UI is really intuitve and it has one heck of a large app database. I'm not a super big fan of iTunes, but you have to take the bad with the good I guess.

If I pay the money a smart phone costs, games are a must.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Well I think that most people would feel that way, which is why I would choose iPhone. I think your best bet is to wait for iPhone 5 and get the 4S at a reduced price, unless there is something that is just so compelling about the feature set of 5.

While lacking in apps, I'd argue that Windows Phone 7 is by far the best current phone OS.

That said, since you want games, there's really no competition for the iPhone.

Edit: Though the Xbox Live integration in WP7 is pretty nice.

My contract with Verizon is up in October so whatever will be available then is what I'll be working with.
Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

If music is important to you I'd say Android since you aren't going to be tethered to an iTunes account and can add music from any computer easily. Android has some great emulators too that you don't have to jail break your phone to use as well which is nice. If you get Android you won't be able to play clash force though so that may weigh in on your decision too.

Unless you absolutely can't stand iTunes (I know I can't) iPhone is the way to go. I like the idea of an open platform, but on a phone I don't think it's really necessary. Echoing what others have said, Android doesn't really have games like Infinity Blade.

Android user here. I strongly considered going iPhone for my new upgrade, but ultimately settled on the the Galaxy S3 (which should be arriving this week from Verizon). The reasons I sprung for the S3:

-Android = customization through the roof. I've never owned an iPhone so I can't vouch for jailbreaking capabilities.
-4.8" screen @ 720 x 1280
-2GB memory
-Removable battery
-No fixed internal storage - up to 128GB with SDXC
-4G speeds
-Emulation is beastly

Some things I appreciate on the iPhone 4S after some fondling:

-Build quality seems SOLID!
-Cave 8)
-Consistently smooth stock UI
