if you have the vga box you put the game in start it with out vga mode on then the second it start loading all loud you press the button to vga it will boot everytime
in fact bust a move 4 is not a vga game. The trick works perfect and that game actually looks better then any of them in vga mode which is funny since it was not compatible. but vha hd is built into the system not the game.
The game just is coded to accept it so most of them you can trick although i cant get king of fighters games to work or

DC-X question
Re: DC-X question
Incorrect. Actually the game was built to be a VGA title regardless of the fact that it won't boot! It's Japanese counterpart Puzzle Bobble 4 is VGA compatible right out the gate. I'm sure that during the localization process, Publisher Acclaim just forgot (or didn't bother) to include the necessary flag within the boot sector on the disc. This is the reason why the game looks as wonderful as it does in VGA mode... Because it was developed to take advantage of 640x480 resolution!in fact bust a move 4 is not a vga game. I stand corrected but it'd odd that it was meant to be vga but they forgot to include it?!CD AGES wrote:Incorrect. Re: DC-X question
It happens. I'm just glad that a good portion that isn't VGA compatible can be forced into it.
Aside from the titles that u mentioned the other titles that cannot work in VGA regardless are Plasma Sword, Psychic Force.

Re: DC-X question
Thanks. Just tested it and this works perfectly for me too. But, I find the game plays with slowdown and doesn't look as good as in composite! Wierd I know but for this game I think I'll just stick to the TV mode on the VGA box. Good tip to know though.CD AGES wrote:Its rather simple really. There are a few ways to go about it but the way I do it:
With Gunbird GDrom inside your DC and your VGA connector disconnected from your DC console, turn on the DC and wait for system to pass thru the initial Dreamcast starup screen. As soon as you hear the console loading into the "Produced by or under liscence from SEGA" screen, reconnect your VGA cable to the back of the Dreamcast and that about does it!

Re: DC-X question
This reminds me. I used to have a jp. copy of Cleopatra Fortune for my PAL DC, but it never worked.
Until I had a VGA box. I popped it in an voila! it worked.
So if you have any backups that do not work on your system, but you still get sound. Hold on to those discs until you get a vga box, it might just work then. I don´t know if that copy was hacked to work with VGA or if with VGA the region checks are different.

Apparently. Sega and IGN claim it was vga. I don't have that Japanese disk to confirm...dreamcast4ever83 wrote:I stand corrected but it'd odd that it was meant to be vga but they forgot to include it?!CD AGES wrote:Incorrect. Lum fan.
Re: DC-X question
Well the game is prone to slowdown much like it's arcade counterpart (VGA mode has got nothing to do with it!). Since the game is sprite based, the game will look ultra sharp and quite jaggy in HD so games of that nature benefit more from a AV/Svid output.Thanks. Just tested it and this works perfectly for me too. But, I find the game plays with slowdown and doesn't look as good as in composite! Wierd I know but for this game I think I'll just stick to the TV mode on the VGA box. Good tip to know though.
It's quite likely that the build that IGN received to preview the product was probably the JPN version or most likely an early build of the localized version which perhaps still carried the flag within the boot sector on the disc to comply with VGA.Apparently. Sega and IGN claim it was vga. I don't have that Japanese disk to confirm...
I had the JPN version at one point and on the back of the boxart, it labeled the game to be VGA compatible!
Re: DC-X question
That's wierd. I tested it back to back in VGA and AV modes and only got the slowdown when in VGA mode?!? Whatever, I'm happy that I can play the game and look forward to using the VGA option with other games.
Thanks for the info on audio too, people!
