Atari Jaguar Sealed Games

Post by Gooseberrysoda »

So I've been noticing a trend on eBay- sealed, uncommon (and good) Jaguar games are going for very low prices- sometimes even lower than cart only. I'm trying to figure out if I should get them just for their cheap prices to play, or hold on to them and just go cart only, keeping the sealed ones as an investment? Will they ever rise in value, at this point?

If you're buying video games as an investment, you're doing it wrong.

Ordinarily I'd agree with you but they're SO CHEAP that I can so easily afford more than one copy...

Yes, I think you should buy as many as you can find. Be sure to get them graded by VGA. They're a sure thing to rise in value.

You'll always wonder if they're re-sealed boxes without any actual game inside...

I've also noticed this trend and have bought some Jag games recently. The couple that were sealed, I made no real hesitation in opening. I just wanted the game in good condition at a reasonable price.

The whole "sealed game & value" thing irritates me though. So I usually stay away from them unless it's a good deal on its own.

Also, Jaguar games deserve to be played IMO. From what I've seen, there aren't any good Jaguar emulators (or my PC sucks :P ), so an actual cart is still the best way to go.

Buy them and set them free!

Usually i am cautious of `Sealed` retro games as i keep asking myself "What is to stop people getting games in near mint looking boxes and re-sealing them themselves with a machine?",but in the case of the Atari Jaguar sealed games is quite a good possibility as they ended up in bargain bins quite a lot.

A decent Jag emu is hard to find to be honest,Project Tempest will play AVP,Tempest,Rayman but not Doom in my experience.

There was a flood of dead stock Jaguar games over the last 2 years actually. The prices are only gone up on a few of the more rare titles.

Maybe the price will rise in 3-5 years when the dead stock is depleted, but it doesnt look like there is any shortage right now.

I bought up all the ones I was missing or only had the cart. I am the type of gamer/collector that opens this shit though. I can't stand sealed games and the idea of collecting sealed games. VGA can DIAF

Yeah, I use that for some Tempest action on PC sometimes. Good to know it does AvP well enough.
There's not much point to playing Doom through an emulator though, what with all the source ports and mods.
Most games that I've tried through Project Tempest and Virtual Jaguar whimper and die before any real gameplay takes place. So I just keep it real with that system.

That's the spirit; Fight the madness :D .
VGA is retarded IMO as well. Whoever thought that video games needed to be rated like comics has done the hobby a serious disservice (again, IMO).
But hey, I do at least find super-expensive sealed games amusing.

Apparently, a copy of Street Fighter II for SNES just went for $10,000 on ebay
 :?
Meanwhile, I can enjoy my $3 cart.

Why would you want to play Jaguar Doom on an emulator anyways, when you can aswell play the real deal if you're on a computer?
