CvS Ryo Sakazaki (Good or Bad ?)

Post by jalvarez82 »

I love Ryo. But in my opinion, Capcom did an awful job with him if you sit back and compare him to what they did for Terry. Terry is an absolute beast in the CvS series (might be my favorite version of him too). It seems like its the total opposite for Ryo. At least that's what I think. Maybe I just need to put in more time with Capcom Ryo. I don't know. But so far...I can't play with him at all. He feels WAY too different from the KOF controls, which is what I am used to. He feels slower and weaker. And the new stance Capcom gave him is terrible.

You know...I also got to thinking. Do you think Capcom would make him feel so different from his KOF style on purpose? He was clearly a rip-off of Ryu and Ken (or so that's the claim). Might there have been some animosity there?

What do you guys think about CvS Ryo?

Not a new stance. His CVS stance bears an almost exact resenblance to his KoF 94/95 incarnation. CVS1as a whole draws heavily from the first 2 KOFs just as their rivals draw from their SF2 and Alpha 2 incarnations. Yes CVS1 Ryo is pretty lackluster but so is Joe Higashi when he was introduced in PRO, but Ryo's Ex version is a better alternative and either version of him while sluggish hits pretty damn hard. He def got improved in CVS2 (both him and Joe!).

Yeah, I think CVS represents the classic early KOF Ryo pretty well. I find him fairly playable. He's not meant to be overly complex or subtle. He's meant to simply hit hard, wherever and whenever possible.

i actually enjoy playing CvS Ryo more than the KoF Ryo for some reason. i guess it's the capcom SF touch on it.

Damn. I'm hella dumb! lol I completely forgot about the earlier games like AOF 1-3 and KOF 94-95. Now it completely makes sense. Capcom was just paying tribute to his older style.

Shows you how much experience I have in the fighting genre.

Now, I can clearly see that this is the Ryo I remember from the AOF series. His stance is identical. I'm gonna go give him another shot in CvS Pro right now and post my impressions once again.

Thanks guys.

Are you guys anywhere near Brentwood, Oakley, Antioch, Pittsburg or Concord? That's my area. I'll be glad to take up that challenge! :)

So...I beat CvS Pro twice with Ryo (once in Capcom groove, once in SNK Groove). He's actually pretty decent. I wish Capcom would've kept his half circle back kick move and his half circle forward leaping punch move, but oh well. Can't have everything I guess.
