That surprised me as well. Digital press gives it a "5" scarcity rating, however, which means that it is tied with Bomberman: The Second Attack and Worms: Armageddon in terms of scarcity. If this is the case, then - given the game's genre - it really is a deal. I know that I picked up my copy for $5 some time ago.

Is Star Soldier the only one released in the US? I think that it is...(I would be delighted to find out that there is something else, however.)
Re: What's the rarest game you own?
Space Invaders, Asteroids, Starfox, Rogue Squadron...all in the shmup family, among others.

im not sure i would categorize star fox and rogue squadron as a shmup, especially rogue squadron since you can fly wherever you please in a 3d environment, and starfox is an onrails shooter.

Good thought. I totally blanked on Space Invaders and Asteroids, and I wasn't even thinking of rail shooters like Starfox. I have all but one of those games (Asteroids) in my collection; so, you would think that I would know better.
Besides Star Soldier, however, are there any other "traditional" 2D, scrolling shmups for the N64?

Hence, "shmup family".
No, no other true 2D shmups.
JP has Bangai-o and DeZaemon, though neither of those are true 2D shooters either.

Should Kirby's Dreamland 3 be considered rare? It was at the very end of the SNES's lifespan, but on the other hand, it *is* Kirby.
