Recommend me some good Xbox Live Arcade games.

Post by Gamerforlife »

So what do you all think are the best downloads available for Xbox Live Arcade? I already know about some of the major ones like TMNT and Castlevania:Symphony of the Night. I'm wondering if there are any lesser known games that are worth downloading. Obscure games like Cloning Clyd, Wik:Fable or Eets:Chowdown for example. I'm just looking for some ideas. I'm not too picky about genre, though I'd rather avoid any ridiculously hard shooters for the time being, which is why I've yet to download Ikaruga(course I already own the Gamecube version anyway). I'll check out any shooter that is reasonably challenging without going over the top though. I heard Omega Five is a good shooter that isn't insanely hard, and the assault heroes games look fun.

Also, for anyone who downloaded Double Dragon, is it as bad as reviews have made it out to be? I've heard there are some serious frame rate issues.

Soooo, what games do you guys recommend? Right now, I've got Golden Axe, Streets of Rage 2, TMNT(yes, I like beat'em ups), Castlevania:Symphony of the Night, Sonic and am considering downloading either Cloning Clyd, Wik or Eets:Chowdown.

It doesn't bother me with shooters. From Robotron to Smash tv to modern games like Halo, it's been proven that using both sticks works intuitively, but I just don't like it in melee oriented games like God Hand or Too Human. I just don't think it works well in those kinds of game which is why you rarely see it being down. Generally, when you see a bunch of games use a particular kind of control scheme it's because everyone knows that it works well. So many games took the Street Fighter II six button scheme because it worked well, but when is the last time someone made an action game with a control scheme like God Hand? There's a reason for that

Thanks for the response though, Assault Heroes does look like something I might like

I downloaded Double Dragon and thought it was awful, and I really enjoy the old ones for the most part. The only 2 XBLA games I own right now are Assault Heroes and Small Arms. I can definitely recommend both of those.

I'm also considering Undertow--the demo was fun.

On the horizon we've got Castle Crashers, Flock, Age of Booty, and Kingdom of Keflings, all of which look promising.

Oh, also there is RezHD on XBLA.

Yes... Rez. HD. Definitely worth buying. Also is "Small Arms" the one that's similar to Moon Patrol? And you get like 3 or 4 pieces to a superweapon? If so, I never bought that game, but the demo was really really fun.

I like Pacman:CE

I also really enjoy Catan. If you haven't played the board game then I'm not sure I'd recommend it. It's highly worth playing and learning to play, it's a great strategy game.

Marble blast ultra is sweet and bleeding hard at later levels too. There's a lot of game in this one. Highly recommended.

Small Arms is a brawler in the vein of Smash Bros, except with ranged weapons (hence the "arms" in the name).
