I have a PAL GC and i've been using it with the original rca (composite) cable. Till now. I have bought an RGB SCART and... it made the picture and sound worse!
The colors are more vibrant but the screen is fuzzy especially in the light-blue and yellow-orange territories. It's a different fuzzyness to the well known composite and RF fuzz. Oblique lines scrolling from top-right to bottom-left.
The sound is noisy when the image is brighter - a quite loud noise can be heard when the screen is white.
My Dreamcast looks perfect on the same television with RGB scart.
Is it a common problem with some GCs or cables?

Re: Gamecube RGB fuzz
Lots of tv have different scart inputs, some scart inputs accept RGB, other scart inputs don´t. Please experiment

Re: Gamecube RGB fuzz
It could´ve been that you had a tv that has multiple scart inputs and that you used another scart input than the one you used your dreamcast with. Alot of people do not know that tv´s sometimes have a scart input that accepts rgb and another scart input that doesn´t accept rgb.dtrack wrote:dtrack wrote: My Dreamcast looks perfect on the same television with RGB scart.
Then I would say you must have some really bad 3rd party rgb scart cable
. Get the official cable. Something which I recommend for everyone for every system, besides ps3, get the cheapest hdmi cable for the ps3!!!

Re: Gamecube RGB fuzz
yes thanks i got it but i tried the consoles in the same rgb inlets. there are 2 scarts and only the 1st can accept RGB, the other one doesnt even give picture (only sound). i'm hunting a branded 3rd party cable because the 30€ price tag is unrealistic
Re: Gamecube RGB fuzz
Sounds like you have a poor quality SCART cable. There's plenty of good ones out there, you don't necessarily have to buy the official Nintendo one.

Re: Gamecube RGB fuzz
I'd say the cable isn't shielded/grounded properly.
Reason I say that is from my modding experience. Had wavy lines last night as it turned out on my DreamCast i'd just installed into my Unity system, had 3 spare wires in the cable I used free, used them all for grounding, and it helped a lot (reduced the interference); added capacitors to the RGB lines to smooth things out a bit, and that also helped to give an almost perfect image. When I reduce the length of the wires from my a/v cable to the SCART i'm using that will make it perfect.
The lines you mention would probably indicate the cable you're using isn't shielded or grounded properly, from my experiences, and not a fault with your television or console.

Re: Gamecube RGB fuzz
I believe the issue is that the multi A/V port does not support RGB Scart. You need to use the Digital port and an RGB Scart Cable with the digital connection is very rare and expensive.

Re: Gamecube RGB fuzz
A normal Nintendo a/v is composite and audio only, however if you search on ebay for "gamecube RGB cable" you get links like this:
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Gamecube-Full ... 35bcca0ca6
...which claim to be what you're after - RGB only, for PAL. Also working on the a/v port.
There is no reason the a/v port on GameCube can't have the connections to support SCART, the connections are all there, so the above item should work fine. They would use the R,G,B lines, ground, audio and also composite for the C-Sync line. The only thing they won't have in the SCART port is the switch to select to widescreen mode; they can enable the voltage switch to output RGB mode on SCART ok though.

Re: Gamecube RGB fuzz
PAL GC will output RGB like you said. NTSC GC require a Digital Component Cable in order to output RGB, you still need to modify the cable for RGB Scart.
