Man, Breaking Bad just gets more and more engrossing. I don't watch too many shows that give you the view from the other side. By that I mean, that this essentially a show where the main characters are bad people, and you are following their story. There's something neat about that. You never really feel like you should be rooting for these guys, and yet you do.
Fascinating TV
I'm also enjoying Friday Night Lights, but in a guilty pleasure sort of way. It's teen drama mixed with sports movie tropes, but it's all done very well. Somehow the show never gets as annoying or cheesy as you would expect a show like this to get. I normally would avoid a show like this like the plague, but I'm digging it.
So what have you guys been watching lately?

Watch The Wire next.Gamerforlife wrote:Man, Breaking Bad just gets more and more engrossing. I don't watch too many shows that give you the view from the other side. I've been watching Dilbert. It's not particularly compelling, but it makes for decent background noise I guess. Obviously, it doesn't really live up to the original strip, which remains one of the few enjoyable (much less readable) segments in my local paper's repertoire. Sadly, it seems to also be the only thing I can stand on Netflix.

Re: So what have you guys been watching lately?
I've finished watching Mad Men over the weekend and enjoyed it very much. Now I'm getting into Arrested Development. It's quite different from the dramas that I've been watching until now (Breaking Bad, The Wire, Mad Men, Boardwalk Empire, The Sopranos).
What would you say the best seasons of Arrested Development are? My brother says its hilarious but I don't find myself laughing hilariously yet. I did laugh a few times (I'm through episode 4 of Season 1) but I'm wondering if it really gets funny later.

Give Arrested Development some more time. A lot of the humor comes from repeated gags and in-jokes (which is also a big part of why it got cancelled).

Hope all the rumors about another season are true.

Last I heard Netflix was funding it? I don't know where I saw that now though...Luke wrote:Hope all the rumors about another season are true.

Re: So what have you guys been watching lately?
Yeah, I tried watching Arrested Development once. It was just a random episode and it did nothing for me. So I would say maybe it is indeed a show that benefits greatly from being in the know about what's going on. I'll try and watch it from the first episode onward at some point in the future. I'm using Netflix streaming for a lot of my shows and movies now, and I think I saw it on there.
I'm about halfway through Breaking Bad's third season now. I'm really just echoing what's already been said about it. The show is damn good. It really is a show you appreciate the more you watch. That's not because it's keeps getting better. Truth is, the show has been really good since the first episode. It's just that the show is very good about paying things off and building off of what's already in place. While I wouldn't go so far as to call it the best show I've seen, it may be the most consistent. I haven't really seen a bad episode yet, and I don't think I can even say that about my favorite shows. Well, not until now that is. As this has indeed become one of my favorite shows. Breaking Bad hasn't exactly redefined how I view good TV or anything, but I am so very impressed by the level of quality it maintains. There's a great attention to detail and continuity on the show. You feel like the writers never forget anything or let anything slip through the cracks. It's a very tightly controlled story.
I don't think the show needs anyone's recommendations given all the accolades it gets, but I'll throw one in anyway. Everybody should check this show out. I kind of want to see The Wire now, since Breaking Bad often gets compared to it. However, it's not on Netflix streaming. Neither is Deadwood damnit, another show I want to see.
I also starting watching Farscape. Saw two episodes, and it didn't blow me away. It's an older show though, so I'm giving it some slack. I'm going to see how I feel about it after I've seen about five episodes or so. I watched about half an episode of Sons of Anarchy too. So we'll see if that show draws me in or not. It's hard for any new show I try to pull me away from Breaking Bad right now. I think I watched like five episodes of Breaking Bad in a row yesterday. It's so very hard to watch just one episode. I feel so bad for people who had to wait a week in between episodes. Sometimes it's better getting into a show after it's been on the air for a while.

Re: So what have you guys been watching lately?
That's not really fair, you watched an episode from the middle of the show and it didn't do anything for you?
The humor changes as you watch the series, so it's not like most comedies where you just jump in any time and everything is a stand alone episode, everything builds on top of what's already happened. Which is what makes the show so funny.

Deadwood is nowhere near as good as The Wire. Absolutely worth watching for Ian Mcshane alone, but the third season was a serious disappointment.
Re: So what have you guys been watching lately?
The Wire is my all time favorite TV show, which I have raved about several times on here: http://www.racketboy.com/forum/search.p ... mit=Search
Seek it out and watch it, Netflix be damned! Get the series box set and if you regret the purchase I'll send you PayPal for whatever you spent.
Breaking Bad is excellent, but it's not as consistently fresh or as well written as the Wire. Still, it is probably the second best show currently on TV behind Game of Thrones (all IMHO of course) and - at least so far - in my top 10 favorite shows of all time.
The first two seasons of Deadwood are amazing, so yeah - find those (and the still decent Season 3) somewhere too!
