That's generally true, but there are exceptions. I also did this challenge on another messageboard, but delayed giving the answers. A lot of people thought the Mirror's Edge one and the Outerra ones were real. Most other errors were in thinking the real life pictures were fake. Skyrim fooled nobody though. I really love the look of Skyrim, but I guess it does have a bit of an artificial sheen to it. Perhaps that's even part of what I like about it.

It does look pretty doesn't it? That new Elder Scrolls MMO they're coming out with seems to throw the look right out the window.

This one was quite surprising. I recall thinking to myself that everything looked artificially bright/simple/clean/glossy when I played Mirror's Edge. Although I played it on Xbox 360, it probably looks better on PC. Quite many modern games actually have that look/feel to them - you cant exactly say what it is, but something feels wrong and artificial despite the very realistic look.
My WTB thread (Sega CD/Saturn games)
Also looking to buy: Ys III (TG-16 CD), Shadowrun (Genesis) Hori N64 mini pad and Slayer (3DO) in long box/just the long box

I'm able to tell by looking at them closely but if it were just a passing glance or I wasn't trying to tell if it were real or not I wouldn't notice.

I don't know if "artificial" is the word I'd use to describe Skyrim. The visual style is just more fantastical then real but subtly so.

Yeah, there's kind of a dream, lyrical quality to Skyrim. It's so easy to just get sucked into its world.
