Well, that's what I think. This video should give you an idea of just how often it happens too. It happens several times a match and it just gets old part of the time even playing casually.

And Peach's smash forward will have different ranges and trajectories, not to mention Game & Watch's Judge Hammer. There's a fair amount of randomness built into the characters that you really can't remove without drastically changing how the character plays.

Personally I think Nintendo added the random tripping as a punishment for competitive players wavedashing.
I just can't grasp why a company would annoy part of their player base when they could make almost everyone happy relatively easily.
