I hate people who make this comment at the flea market/ebay

Post by mas »

Hi Everyone,
I just came back from the flea market in hopes to get some good finds and I did find a ps2 fat model in which I paid 8.00 for to only come home to a broken ps2 when I tried the system :( . Ohh well. Maybe next week.
Sorry about that now back to my story. I saw some vendor selling a n64 with 4 games which were the commen sports titles for 100.00 I asked her why soo much and she say's and I quote"I paid over 300.00 for the system and games I'm not going to have you rip me off" I told her that the system was 199.00 in 96 and it's 2012. I'll give you 20.00 for everything and she looked at me like this :shock:like i called her fat or something of that nature and got mad and told me no.
I see this all the time. Ebay and flea markets. Not soo much with yard sales. But I saw a gameboy with 4 puzzle games for 200.00. Grant it the system was in great shape but I just see this stuff all the time and people wonder why nobody buys thier stuff.
If this is on another thread please add my column to the post but I'm sure everybody here has seen this or experience this before.
p.s here is the link on that gameboy. I just think the seller doesn't know the value of video games in the past.

some people are strapped for cash and are pinning their hopes on things that may be worth something for someone.

Its the same situtaion with craigslist ads. People want money and they know that someone out there is sure to want it for that price.

We are in to the retrogaming scene, and some aren't. We love buying stuff from sellers that dont know what they have. And sellers like less than informed customers that will give them top money for less than stellar product.

For some sellers, they have that one high marquee product that they have to sell to make a profit. Sometimes they have to sell it high to pay the deposit/rent for the fleamarket space.

It sometimes depends on how much stuff the seller has. Does he have a huge U-haul with merch, or is he/she selling out of the trunk of their Ford Escort?

Fleamarket selling requires lots of patience and smarts. Some are cut out for it and some impatiently give up.

mostly it's that people who don't collect video games have no idea about worth or depreciation of games. They see a Yahoo News story about how someone bought a NES game at a yard sale for ten cents and it went for thousands on eBay -- and then assume that goes for ALL NES games.

There's the other breed as well -- the yard sale / flea market sellers who expect to get eBay BIN prices for their games. What they don't get is I'm spending my time/gas/effort to hunt these games down locally so that I don't HAVE to spend eBay BIN prices.

If you go to Notalwaysright.com, you will quickly notice that most stupid costumer tales have the same thing in common: The people involved do not understand the concept of a shop, supply and demand or what the guy in front of them is supposed to do and, guess what, most people are like that!

And it's obvious the woman was lying. People tend to be big enough assholes than not only they lie, they lie badly and get angry when you see through it.

Most people seem to think that collectors are some crazy guys that go around and give you ridiculous amounts of money for something that doesn't really have any value and people like the thought that that have something to die for even if it's obviously false, hence the stupid high prices of everything.

There's a store near me who prices their stock by looking it up on Ebay, taking the BIN price, and adding 20% as a "convenience charge". Needless to say, I've long since stopped shopping there.

This is a silly thread. No clue why high prices would upset someone.

Don't like the price, simply don't buy it. And if you were selling something for $300, and someone offered you $20, you'd also give them a fart face.

I really haven't came across this yet (luckily).

Though in the Game Boy seller's defense, that is in pretty good condition with some of the manuals. Of course he needs to get off of his high rocker and lower those prices but you know, it's better than most of the weathered yellow shit I see.

luke,
How is this thread silly? I'm just stating that people don't know what things are really worth anymore. She was thinking that all star baseball 99, nfl 64, wwf warzone, and crusn usa are still 50.00 a piece and the 64 is still over 100.00.
It doesn't bother me at all. I just feel a little bad that she is going to wonder why no one bought her system but hey she was selling her kids toys between 5.-10.00 a piece. I offered a fair price and she told me to get lost and so i did.
For 8.00 I bought a ps2 that dont play games because the motor was dead. Now there is something to get mad at. I wonder if that guy knew that the system was dead.

Because you "Hate" people who don't know the value of everything. And now you are also stating that no one knows how to price anything these days. Your words, not mine.

Again, if you don't like the price, don't offer less than 10% of what they are asking and then get upset when they don't accept your offer. What did you expect to happen? The seller take your offer and throw in a balloon?
