As much as I love Psychonauts, I've never finished the game because of that level.Duane Dibbley wrote:The Meat Circus in Psychonauts. It's like Double Fine took every bad design choice from 3D platformers and made a level out of them.

That is my "ring tone" for when I get texts. I sometimes feel like the only person who likes Navi.J T wrote:Hey! Listen.
As others have said, those stupid ink ribbons. I get that it was to add to the survival idea but it drives me nuts. I can't enjoy the game unless I have the hours upon hours to dedicate to it, which I never do. Really cripples the fun for me.
Other games have had limited/controlled saving but it was handled much better imo.

Re: Annoying Things in Otherwise Great Games
I just finished playing Crystalis for the NES a couple of weeks ago. Loved it, for the most part.
That being said, I HATED having to pause the game (and pausing the action) to switch swords to fight specific enemies, especially late in the game. In the beginning it was nothing, but in between getting the water sword and thunder sword, it got to annoy the hell out of me.

Re: Annoying Things in Otherwise Great Games
The GBC port changed it so that no weapon is useless against an enemy but a particular weapon is much more effective than another. So you can use the Thunder Sword nonstop but some enemies will take a long time to kill.
I think if the game had shoulder buttons bound to switch sword the mechanic wouldn't feel nearly as bad; you just quickly toggle to the most effective sword.

For me, I really didn't enjoy the forced grinding in that game to finish certain bosses off. Took a while to get XP in that game!MyNameIsVince wrote:I just finished playing Crystalis for the NES a couple of weeks ago. Loved it, for the most part.

I think that Crystalis is one of the overlooked 8-bit masterpieces. I feel it did everything the original Legend of Zelda did, better. Better graphics, better sound, more areas and dungeons to explore, more villages and NPCs to interact with, and more RPG elements.ExedExes wrote:For me, I really didn't enjoy the forced grinding in that game to finish certain bosses off. That said, the switching of the swords was slightly annoying to me. Not a big enough deal for me to write off the game or significantly lower my opinion of it, though. But what are you gonna do when you only have 2 action buttons?

Not sure if this is a popular opinion or not but...
Cycling through all the weapons with the select button in Super Metroid. It's so hard to go back to this control scheme after Fusion and Zero Mission did it so much better with the shoulder buttons.
Also, accidentally picking up a crappier weapon in just about ever shmup and run 'n gun that exists. Argh!

Re: Annoying Things in Otherwise Great Games
The only time I really had to do forced grinding was I think when I got to General Kelbesque in Draygonia Castle (I think it was this boss) and I couldn't inflict damage. I didn't know why I couldn't. I had to find out from another Crystalis fan walkthrough page that I had to be at a certain level to inflict damage on bosses. Apparently, I was at level 10 and I had to be at 11 to inflict damage. Yeah that pissed me off to no end. So I had to leave, and grind in one of those caves in the Angry Sea, then come back, fight through the castle (and those annoying ass flying bird/bat? creatures) to beat the General.BurningDoom wrote:I think that Crystalis is one of the overlooked 8-bit masterpieces. The sword switching was really the only thing I didn't like about the game....well that and the EASIEST final boss ever. Otherwise I liked it a lot. They really should have made a sequel to it on the SNES. It would have made the SNES RPG lineup (especially action RPGs) even more awesome.
