I do have to mount my old LCD TV (Samsun 52") above a fire place since that is the only practical spot in my living room. Currently it's on a coffee table in front of the fire place. I don't think it will be that high off the floor like yours.
It doesn't look like you fished any of the cables into the wall, did you? That's one concern I have with mine. I suspect that I will have to do some hole cutting/patching since I want my wires in the wall.

Well if you are looking for an affordable mount I'd go with this one off AV-Express I cant find the one we bought, but this one is it's 'baby brother'. I just can't say enough good things about the mount I got from them. Similar ones in local retail stores are over $250 and have less then 1/2 the freedom/articulation. As far as cables go, no we didn't hide them, down the road I plan on adding a nice wide piping behind the TV that comes out behind the cabinet.

I was lucky, I lived at Mom n' Dad's, they charged me very minimal rent which allowed me to get ahead (Thanks Mom! <3). 3 years ago when I was 22 I was promoted at my job and went from minimum wage to $25. Since I wasn't used to bringing home the larger wage I banked (most of) the difference... for over 2 years. You cant miss what you don't know! That paid for the down payment. Now having a mortgage I don't really feel the difference since I've been socking more then the mortgage payment away for the last few years - EASY TRANSITION!! We budgeted $4000 for furniture (Media Rack, TV Mounts, Kitchen Table, Curio Cabinet, Bed and those sweet $100 each Craigslist couches). Christmas and Birthday presents gave us the kitchen, and what the girlfriend had left over from her place (most of her furnishings went to her brothers). Overall we just shopped sales for the longest time and stored it in the Garage (Thanks Mom! <3)

My girlfriend makes a few bucks over minimum wage and yeah I guess I make a decent living, but we sacrifice a lot of the 'normal things' as some of my friends put it. Neither of us drive, never have - in Vancouver for someone my age insurance is $150-250 a month (depending on the vehicle) and gas is over $1.40 a litre ($5.20 a US gallon). Why bother when I am a 6min bus ride away from work and her work's literally across the street. Transit pass is only $80/month. Currently we don't have cable, we just download what show we want to watch or buy the disc. No home phone either, just use cell phones.

My vice is video games I've bought at least 1 nearly every week, Again shopped deals when I could.
So I guess in summary we just planned like crazy saved our pennies and played it smart! I hope if there are some young-uns out there reading this, save save save it pays off!

No car, no Cable = easy money being saved! im kinda jealous lol, wish i didnt have to drive to work, but no way would i beable to use public transport where i live, everything is very spread apart and i work at 4am + i drive a V8 Truck by choice.

That was beautiful. I really enjoyed your set up, very nicely designed and laid out. Definitely pays to live in a city and not use your own means of transportation, that's for sure. I'm getting used to biking and walking everywhere. With gas only getting more expensive, it allows you a little more breathing room in your hobbies!

Kudos to you for having good financial sense. It's sad that too many people live from paycheck to paycheck and have no savings whatsoever.

We just redid our deck on the roof. Just laid down tiles from Ikea then painted them with a teak oil. Such an improvement!
