Many Nice Things For My Laboratory

Image

Wii Kirby's Epic Yarn - $29.99 New Retag $14.99 Gamestop
This was strange, the Manual, Nintendo Club Points and an Advertising Flyer were all inside in crisp new condition. There was a brand new "used game" price sticker stuck over another sticker underneath on the case which also looks shiny new condition. When I took the game up to the counter, the employee pulled another copy from the drawer. It also had all the crisp new extra brochures inside. I suspected both were new so I asked the employee to check and see if any store had new copies. After checking, the employee apologized and stated that the game is only sold as used. Weird that the online site still shows new, but maybe it has not been updated yet?

Gamestop will sometimes retag new items as used! In this case all the new Kirbys behind the counter dropped from $29.99 and now sold at $14.99 as used games! This was on top of the original used price of $19.99 listed at the online site. I registered the Club Nintendo Points which went in fine, another indication the game was new! I wonder what other titles might be in the same scenario?

Vintage Mercury Switch - $3.00 Swap Meet
I teased mjmjr about using mercury switches as a rotate detection to auto flip the Arcade Sticks for his Custom TATE Arcade. This is an interesting very old dual contact sensor switch. The mercury sloshing back and forth inside the glass bulb looks like the switch could belong in the SCIFI Channel Oddities show. That's Edgar in the pic above. The "Test Tube with wires" has two "buttons", maybe I'll use for a mod in a controller as a tilt and shaker combo switch. Track and Field game?

MGA Pacman LCD - FREE Dads Day Gift
Daughter knows I collect old portable games, so she made sure to get me the uncommon mini cab version that includes the Red Ball Stick just like the Arcade. Not sure of the year, Google searches show the smaller DPad version.

The Pacman Arcade and home versions allow a player to hold a stick to turn a corner before getting there. The portable does not allow this, the stick must be bumped right at the corner. Maybe poor programming or intentional, but it does add a new tactic in game play of the old dot eater. In addition, the maze scrolls like Pacman Jr, another nice bonus.

MadCatz Arcade Gamestick 4758 - $17.99
After reading noise's Thread concerning this, I had to get it. I remember a Gamestop somewhere in the county having it so went for a drive guesstimating which store I saw it. Sure enough, it was still hanging there on a peg hook buried behind other 360 used controllers. I struck a conversation with the employee.

CRTGAMER: "I saw this months ago, lucky it was still here"
Employee: "I remember getting this, must have been two years ago."

We both look at the package and see a recent sticker. Inside the bag there is a sticker stuck right on the stick with a date of 09-21-10. Back then still the $19.99 price.

Employee: "Almost two years in my store."
CRTGAMER: "See the knob? I'm buying this for the SPINNER."

From the look on the Employee's face he did not know that tiny important bit of information. Two years in his store and he and any other customer missed not buying a 360 Spinner! The "Atari Joystick Spinner" can also work in the PC. 8)

Atari 2600 CX40 Joystick - $3.95 Thrift Store
An extra for the Atari VCS that has one stick missing the outer rubber. Still on a hunt for a CX10 to see what all the fuss is about.

Star Trek Chronology - $2.00 Bookoff
First Edition that has pics and short paragraphs describing the timeline in the Trek series. I bought it for the memorable run of the original series, it shows pics of all the guest actors. The doctor treating his computer as a person, the crazed commodore sacrificing his ship on the planet killer and of course the con man Harry Mudd! The original series was more then phaser blasts, great stories to rewatch again.

Mattel Baseball 1978 - $7.00 Shipped
After an OHM Meter check, the battery clip needed repair. An easy fix.

That pac-man mini cab is...mini...not the one I was thinking of. A nice display novelty if nothing else.

Sega MK-1470 6 button controller with turbo $3.98 at City Union thrift store. I already have a 1653 and pioneer laseractive 6 button (which has a funky dpad :( ) but I hadn't seen a 1470 before. They had a model 1 sega with rf (no power) for 6.98 and but i don't need another genesis.
Here is a side by side comparison of the 6 button controllers.

Nothing super great price wise, but this is what I picked up today whilst out and about:
Sub-terrania - 1.99
Rocket Knight Adventures w/case - 4.99
Heavenly Guardian - 3.00
Third party 6 button genny controller new in box- 9.99 (I know I could have found a controller cheaper, but me and my daughter were playing the genesis last night and it was bugging the hell out of me that we couldn't play toe jam and earl, so I said F*** it, and bought this controller)

Also, a few games i bought on the forums showed up today: Toe jam and Earl 2, Klonoa 2, and Kirby's epic yarn (sealed).

Probably the worst comparison video I have seen lately. The maker of it did not research things at all (the one with turbo (it was made my Majesco, not Sega) was Japanese? Ummm... no.) or even test them before making the video (doesn't know how the slow motion works?).

Terrible comparison and actually gives false information.

Someone here? :D :D :D

I know, I'm ruthless. At least the next one will be much better!

Japanese Mega Drive 6-button pad:
Image
Slightly slimmer than the original US one, but basically the same. No turbo. No slo-mo (which is the same as pushing the start button rapidly). The one the video maker thought was copied from the Japan 6-button pad is this:

Image
MK-1470
Similar size to the Japanese one, but it has the buttons sticking very far out which is... not like any other official pads. Speaking of "official", Sega did not make this. It was made my Majesco and licensed by Sega, just like the later model 2 Genesis consoles and also the model 3 Genesis consoles.

There is also the MK-1470X, which basically has the original 3-button shape with 6 buttons. Both 1470 models junky compared to the original MK-1653 and the Japanese model.

I mean, for just checking out the different controllers, the video does show that. Still, false info was giving and I am BATMAN!

(hmmm, I wonder if I got carried away...)

Sorry I didn't really listen to it before I linked it. I am too lazy to take a pic of mine. And this video had both side by side.

I wonder if anyone caught the "MK-1470X" reference... X is for xylophone!

I was thinking of making a thread for this massive haul I'm trekking back from Japan with, but I noticed this thread and thought it might be a better place for it. If I'm wrong, I hope the moderators will at least take pity on me.

These are all the games and peripherals I've picked up in the last month and a half or so. I mostly took these pictures for insurance purposes, so there's a lot of different angles and such, but I'm planning on taking more comprehensive pictures of my collection in general when I get back to the states.

I got most everything for either a steal or right around fair price for the Japanese market, but taking shipping into account, it's almost a wash. Also most of these have their obi (spine card) where applicable.

I think the pictures mostly speak for themselves, but just to point out some highlights:

-[DC] BBA - 5000 yen (~ $60)
-[DC] R7 LE system - mint (I'm 99% sure it had never been used before)
-[SS] Magic Knight Rayearth LE - 300 yen (~$4)
-[SS] Phantasy Star Collection - mint + sealed game disc, 1900 yen (~$24)
-[SS] X-men vs Street Fighter w/ Ram cartridge - mint, 680 yen (~$8.50) *Not pictured
-[DC] Seaman 2001 - New
-[DC] Shenmue II - New
-[DC] Dreameye - mint, 880 yen (~$11)
-[DC] Space Channel 5 - New, 100 yen (~$1.25)
-[Xbox360] Muchi Muchi Pork / Pink Sweets LE - mint, sealed soundtrack, unused DLC card

There are also a number of things that I've gotten more recently, or that I sent back before photographing, that aren't accounted for in the pictures:

Second copy of Radiant Silvergun (Will be selling. Long, embarrassing story)
[SS] Battle Garegga / Akumajou Dracula X : Gekka no Yasoukyoku / Cyberbots LE
[SS] Cordless Pad Set / Twin Sticks (1480 yen) / Hori Fighting Stick (200 yen)
[DC] Blue Sub 6/ Fushigi no Dungeon Fuurai no Shiren Gaiden / Sorcerian / Godzilla Generations / Capcom vs SNK Millenium Fight 2000 (Disc only with CvS2 packaging that I got for free)
[DC] Sakura Taisen 3 + 4 LE boxes and extras that I picked up for free
[DC] El Dorado Gate vol 4 (N), 5, 6, and 7
[DC] Sega Direct black controller + matching VMU / Sakura Taisen 3 LE VMU / CIB Godzilla VMU / DC system only (1344 yen)
[PS3] Ico X Wander and the Colossus Limited Box
[PS2] Disgaea LE / Onimusha / Koukakukidoutai (GitS) / Kino no Tabi I / Dragon Quest VIII / Gensou Suikoden IV LE
[PS] Gensou Suikoden II (It's not enough that I already had every US and JP release in the series, I needed another GSII....)
Two copies of The Last Remnant.... (orz)
JP Xbox 360

Also, if anyone was scratching his head at the picture with three copies of Batsugun, it's a long story, but I'm planning on selling two of them, and I think I've decided to sell Steam Heart's as well.
