Heavenly Guardian

Post by peace4myheart »

Anyone playing this game yet??? I heard it was supposed to be a spiritual successor to rocky and pocky. However, the press have been given it very bad ratings, 3 or 4 out of 10. It's only 14 dollars so it is pretty cheap to buy. Just want to know if it is worth buying or playing.

I'm curious as to the quality of this game as well. I've seen it at Gamestop, but only used, and for $19.99 (for some odd reason).

Apparently, it may be the last 100% sprite-based PS2 game ever released. Even two dimensional Nippon Ichi titles have 3d effects in places. That should give you an idea of how crummy Heavenly Guardian supposedly looks.

Waiting on the Wii version. It came out Monday but stores wont have it until Friday. 2 player scrolling shooters are never bad games with my friends.

Ever since it was first prompt for a North American release I had my eyes upon it. It reminds me of valkyrie densetsu for the pc engine -great stuff.

Everywhere I look tho, its sold out. Might buy it used if it comes down to it... Return of Pocky & Rocky !!

Bumping an old thread for new opinions. i just picked this game up for a couple bucks at a pawn shop today, but I've been playing my Genesis a lot lately so probably won't get to this game for a bit.

Kind of like the OP I was wondering if anyone here has played it, and if it is as bad as the review scores I have seen. I picked it up out of curiosity because it is 2D, but when i got home and looked it up and the couple of reviews I could find gave it crap scores. From what I gathered the reviewers were mostly bitching about the graphics, but never really said anything about gameplay that was too terrible. the reviews basically went like this: "Some of the original SNES games looked better, it has simple play mechanics, occasionally shots don't line up, boooo this game sucks 3/10"

So anyone who's played it what are your thoughts gameplay wise? The graphics on the back of the box and the screenshots the reviews used looked fine to me. I'm more interested in hearing about the gameplay.

I think the game is a gem in our era, last few months Ive been able to find it at really good prices so I dont see why not.I wouldnt listen to the reviews so much either especially if you have the game already, but yea when it comes to reviews hardly do you get true opinions most people like to say what they think the people would ike to hear, half the time anyways.

I didnt get far in the game, but would say its well above average, and Pocky fans and fans of the genre should be in for a treat.

I didn't like it personally. But I feel like I'm in the minority.
