Re: The Wrestling Thread
Did you guys actually watch E.C.W. back then? I mean the in-ring stuff was great! Those guys were quick, agile, and took crazy risks; and many of them went on to be some of the best in the business. But pretty much everything else about E.C.W. was 2nd rate. The writing and dialogue were bad, the video quality was bad for a long time, and announcers were obnoxious with their constant screaming into the microphone.

I watched ECW from '99 or so on. Not as religiously as the other two but did follow.

They are great. Joey Styles is hilariousretrosportsgamer wrote:^ In the vein of ECW, and with the current product so god-awful - there's always DVD releases! The new ECW (and on blu-ray with extra matches to boot) one looks really promising. I always make sure I buy these to show support for the product direction.
I recently came across some PAL ECW DVDs from 2001-2002 that were made by deltamusic.co.uk. Any ideas what's the story behind those? Are they official/legit?
Nope, I was too young and I don't think they were on any channel in Europe, atleast not where I live. Maybe Razzmatazz knows how well ECW was known back in the 1990s in the UK? My uneducated guess would be that before the first ECW invasion (2001 was it?) only the hardcore European wrestling fans knew ECW through internet, but it wasnt untill the second invasion and the one night stand PPV that they got more widely recognized.BurningDoom wrote:Did you guys actually watch E.C.W. back then? Although ECW hardcore Revolution and Anarchy Rulz were both released in the PAL region. The Dreamcast version especially seems to be a very common game in here. How could a small, financially troubled promotion like ECW release a game on 4 different platforms in Europe if they were were virtually unknown?
Is any one familiar with Anarchy Rulz? I've got Hardcore revolution on N64 and Dreamcast and it's very dissapointing, WWF Attitude/Warzone (cant remember which) on the PS1 was more "hardcore" than the ECW game. Are there weapons in Anarchy Rulz?

Re: The Wrestling Thread
So I have to say I enjoyed seeing Heyman out promo Triple H. Seriously, it was like watching a pro versus a rookie in there.
AJ is awesome. I'm totally on the bandwagon now. The way Kane and Punk react to her is priceless. One of the few genuinely funny things on WWE television.
I thought the Lauper thing was cool. I prefer something like this to inducting people like her into the hall of fame. The HOF should be for wrestling or people who have been a full time part of the business. I don't mind seeing celebs honored the way they did with Lauper last night though. The Heath Slater stuff was garbage though and had me rolling my eyes at how immature WWE can be at times, but Piper really saved that whole segment with his wonderfully genuine, heartfelt promo. That guy's class.
Can I marry Layla? Seriously, that woman is beautiful on the outside and the inside
Nice seeing Ziggler finally getting pushed over Swagger. I don't mind them keeping him with Vicki. Unlike some fans, I really don't see how she holds him back in any way. This sort of stuff always works. Triple H and Stephanie, Edge and Lita, Macho Man and Elizabeth, Edge and Vicki, I could go on and on. It gives Vicki something to do and she's a good crowd heat generator, which Ziggler may need as I see that guy in danger of getting over as a babyface.
A decent Raw, but doesn't get me hopeful for the future of the product. They can put out a decent show ever now and then, but the overall state of the product is still mediocre.
Did you guys see Punk on Jimmy Fallon? Good stuff

Re: The Wrestling Thread
I recall watching ECW occasionally on Bravo from 1999-2001. I remember it came on at 11pm with the intro of that crazy fall through about 5 tables stacked on top of each other. I don't recall much of the action as it was a long time ago, but I have owned numerous DVDs that weren't released through the WWE. I have Cyber Slam 96:Menegrothx wrote:Nope, I was too young and I don't think they were on any channel in Europe, atleast not where I live. On the whole it was probably quite niche what with WWE being on Channel 4 at the time (a channel everybody gets whereas Bravo was satellite).
As for the games, I remember Hardcore Revolution and Anarchy Rulz both getting slated in Dreamcast Magazine. Yet N64 magazine gave them average scores.

Re: The Wrestling Thread
Are you really basing your judgement of a wrestling organization off of their video game? Come on now. Whether the game is good or not has nothing to do with the quality of the wrestling promotion. Especially since it's the game developer, and not the wrestling promotion itself that has more to do with the game's development.Menegrothx wrote: Nope, I was too young and I don't think they were on any channel in Europe, atleast not where I live. Re: The Wrestling Thread
Didn't the ECW games use the same engine as WWF Warzone/Attitude? It was essentially the same game but with different costumes on the characters. I recall they were Acclaim games though.BurningDoom wrote:Are you really basing your judgement of a wrestling organization off of their video game? Come on now. It is a common game because it probably sold well. From 1998-2002, wrestling was huge. Hence the WWE wrestling games becoming annual updates, the spin offs such as Simpsons Wrestling, Def Jam Vendetta, Backyard Wrestling etc.
