Not sure, but maybe it is needed since the game looks like an Arcade Port. I ran mine on the PC with an Emulator. According to the SuperPCEngineGrafx Site the original requires the Arcade Card so my bet is the bootleg does too.

Yes, you absolutely need an Arcade Card to run Sapphire. It required the extra memory upgrade that the Arcade Card provides.

If you have a Duo, Duo-R, Duo-RX or Super CD-ROM2 add on (the grey piggy back one matching the Core Grafx II colour scheme), you can use either the Arcade Card Duo or Pro. If you have the original CD-ROM add-on (that goes on the side and matches the white PC Engine), you must have the Arcade Card Pro.

If you have an American TG-CD or Turboduo, you are out of luck unless you have your system region modded.

I guess you have a Duo-R? Then either the Arcade Card Duo or Pro will work for you. The Duo card is cheaper than the Pro.

Not exactly, as the extra inserts are extra special.

The top one is real, the bottom one is the care4data printing. An easy way to tell is by the different size of the inner band on the disc. Also, the original one on the top has a more purple tone to her clothing, while the bottom is more blue. That might have been "corrected" on the newer printings, though!!! The ONLY sure way to tell is by reading the inner ring on the disc, as you pointed out on the previous page.

Can't you use one of the converters with the Arcade Card? I've been wanting to try this game out, but if the Arcade Card won't on my Turbo Duo and PB converter, I might as well get an iso and play it on Magic Engine.

I assumed you meant it, too, because my understanding has always been you can use a converter, but I wanted to clarify for by some chance a converter doesn't work with the Arcade Card, specifically, I didn't want to spend the money on it.

Yes, I do have a converter. Untested, but given to me as a freebie in an auction for the Turbo Duo I won. I know the failure rate is relatively high on the "Purple Barney" converters (as opposed to the "diving board" style), but it's still worth a shot to try the game on the original hardware.

Slightly off topic, but do you know where to find a cheaper Arcade Card than ebay? $40 shipped seems like a bit high to invest on one game (which I would still need to find )

Are you using a TG-16/TG-CD combo unit or a Turboduo?

TG-CD: Requires an Arcade Card Pro (and converter or region mod)
Turboduo: You can use either an Arcade Card Duo or Arcade Card Pro (and converter or region mod)

Arcade Card Pro is usually $40 minimum (more often $60-75)
Arcade Card Duo is usually $20-$40.

The lower range prices are a little more than what you would find in Akihabara.
