Re: Metal Heads Assemble!!
I was taking a look at the upcoming nearby shows on bandsintown and found an interesting band called Swashbuckle. They're a pirate-themed Thrash Metal band. For the most part, they're just straightforward Thrash Metal, but sometimes they'll stray into Death Metal territory. Their discography's on Spotify if anyone wants to give them a try. Swashbuckle's going to be playing near me later this month and I'm going to try to get the day off.

Tell me you listen to Alestorm. (One of the members has started a medieval fantasy band called Glory Hammer.)GSZX1337 wrote:I was taking a look at the upcoming nearby shows on bandsintown and found an interesting band called Swashbuckle. Its odd being really into metal and being a strong Christian. I'm pretty safe, as long as I avoid the uber Black metal and the few true blue satanists around...
Also, Paramaecium. (Hope I spelled that right, somewhat of a bitch to spell.)

Yeah, oddly, the heavy Christian bands usually tend to be post hardcore, math metal, or some sort of heavy-yet-not-metal stuff that most metalheads don't like.Forlorn Drifter wrote:Its odd being really into metal and being a strong Christian. August Burns Red is a good example. Insane instrumentals, but not "metal" I guess? I dunno, rock genres are confusing as hell. There is apparently black death metal and blackened death metal... and these are two different genres?
Then there is post-metal stuff like Killswitch Engage and As I Lay Dying, but I personally find that stuff boring.
Just don't listen to Tool

Here's another fun one. Deathdoom unblack metal. Yeahhh... imagine doom, death, and black mixed, but with positive Christian messages. Heh.

I think the term you're looking for is metalcore, and yeah, not many people like that term. Also, a lot of of the heavier Christian bands tend to fall into that category, although they're also in the other mentioned categories as well.
My guess is people don't equate ABR with "metal" is because of the use of breakdowns (which can be said for a lot of metalcore bands). Other than that I don't see why it wouldn't be metal.
I'm kinda weird with metalcore in terms of bands I like and don't like. I don't like bands like Killswitch Engage, I'm indifferent to bands like August Burns Red, yet I enjoy listening to bands like Norma Jean and The Chariot. Go figure.
And too late, I've been listening to Tool for about 2 decades.
