This would still get a Hard R for violence, sexual themes, and drug use, no way would it get a PG-13 today or tomorrow.
i was being a bit sarcastic with my statement. but, if this was released today - in the director's cut, purest form- do you think it would have been initially rated NC-17? after reading the intro in the booklet that came with the director's cut about it taking 150 cuts to get the R rating i was expecting the worst of the worst. i was expecting the sex scenes to make me blush, i was expecting the kill scenes to be beyond gruesome, and i was expecting shit ton of drug usage. what i got was nothing i would call out of the ordinary for an R rated movie.
if you took a shit, please put it back

From what I understand, getting an NC-17 rating is a pretty arbitrary thing.

MPAA is often more about movie politics than actual content anyway.

aren't all movie ratings arbitrary? there isn't a checklist they use that state if the word "fuck" is used 13 times it gets an R rating for strong language, right?

Daniel Schechter, who has a grand total of one film to his name, is working on a prequel to Jackie Brown starring Jennifer Aniston and Dennis Quaid. Can't make this shit up.

You only get 1 fuck in a pg13. And it can't be in reference to sex.

Prometheus, and it was god damned incredible. I think I enjoyed it even more than the Avengers, or Cabin in the Woods (shhhh... don't tell Joss Whedon). See it in 3-D if you get the chance.

What's up with all the good movies coming out this year? Last year was like a ghost town for quality blockbusters, aside from Scream 4, of course.

Disagree about the Avengers (I mean come on) but I did enjoy Prometheus greatly. And Im not trying to be anti-dude, but the 3D was completely worthless in Prometheus. Really it didn't add squat to the film.

Really?!

I thought they pulled off some neat tricks with the depth of field in plenty of shots. All of the space scenes looked awfully vast and ominous as well.

Maybe you were expecting more gimmicks? There was at least one that stands out to me, which I won't spoil, but I personally believe there's more to this RealD thing than just that. It may be more subtle in flicks like the Avengers, or Prometheus, but I feel it really helped those movies spring to life.

To be fair, I think the theater I went to might have been having issues with their 3D. So I could be wrong, yes. But to me the 3D bar is Avatar. That movie's 3D actually added to the feeling of the movie. It was minimal stuff like tree branches, and bugs flying, etc. But it made it feel like you were on that planet, in the forest. The only time I noticed anything 3D in Prometheus was during the silica storm. The storm/wind looked pretty good. But the rest, to me was just bleh.

A decent martial arts flick. It's not great, but it's not bad either. The fights are good, but a bit conventional. There's nothing really fancy or out of the ordinary, just your standard punches, kicks, and a little bit of MMA inspired, ground based grappling. It's all well put together and fun to watch though. One thing that stood out about the fights is seeing people take hits and shrug them off. Once memorable scene in particular shows the lead girl take a bottle to the head and not even flinch. It only seems to piss her off. That's badass. The story is so so. Some of the dialog is really bad, but I don't know if that's due to the writing or the translation work on the subtitles. The best part of the movie is the female lead. She's gorgeous :D

This is coming from someone who isn't usually that into Asian women. There's something about this one. She has a real screen presence and a pretty nice body, which the movie makes use of in some pretty sexy attire she has in some scenes. Nothing exploitative, but sexy nonetheless. The fact that she can kick ass is rather nice too. This isn't a must see martial arts flick, but not a terrible waste of an hour and a half either. It stands out for being a Vietnamese movie, not your usual Hong Kong fair. It's feels like the sort of movie you'd see Tony Jaa in, except it doesn't have all the awesome stunt work you see in his movies, just a few decent fights and an o.k. story. I've seen much worse, but I've also seen much better. It doesn't hold a candle to Chocolate, but I'd watch it again for the stunning female lead
