What was the last movie you've seen?

Talk about just about anything else that is non-gaming here, but keep it clean

The latest Sherlock Holmes movie. The Guy Ritchie formula works rather well when Holmes "solves" a mystery, but just as the title, the movie is rather forgettable.

Maybe I'm still a little bitter that I couldn't convince a room full of guys to watch THE ARTIST instead.

How so? I remember that movie gave me nightmares for years when I was 6 or so. I never knew it was a dark comedy until much later. Though at 6 I probably wouldn't have picked up on the comedy had I even know it was supposed to be.

I still think after all these years that the first transformation scene in this film is pretty awesome.

Just thinking of the balloon scene makes me chuckle a bit. I know I'm beating a dead horse, again, but I feel the same way about Prometheus. So entertaining, but so over the top dumb and silly.

Moving on...TED advertisements seem to be everywhere (I think I posted the trailer here either last year or early this year). Looking forward to seeing how this does at the box office. It presents itself as a movie kids would want to see but can't, and I have little interest in a marky mark and teddy bear movie.

This will likely appeal to the Family Guy audience (I know, duh) but I don't see it breaking the $200mil mark. Believe the dvd/blu-ray sales will completely eclipse ticket sales. TED seems like a big budget production that would be better suited as a television special. Could be wrong, but I'll give mjmjr another $5.00usd if TED relies on reference and shock jokes.I'll also bet that the movie ends with marky finally putting away his TED, or TED moving on. A coming of age movie for someone in their forties is what I expect.

natural born killers

wow. this was a surprise. i went into the movie with zero knowledge of it, minus the fact the story was written by quentin tarantino. what surprised me was the crazy filming. there is not a single "normal" scene in the movie. ever scene either is in black and white, is shot at a weird ass camera angle, is a cartoon, has a psychedelic feel to it, or is a mixture all of four. it surprisingly worked pretty well, though. definitely is a movie i can see people hating strictly because of its weird-ass visuals. also has some dark humor thrown in there as well.

very surprised to see this film was initially rated NC-17 and it took 3k edits to reduce it to an R rating. amazing how far times have come since 94. this probably would received a pg-13 rating if it were released today.
if you took a shit, please put it back

Yes on the body horror, yes on Jenny Agutter... No on David Naughton.

lol, y'know, as a kid, I always confused Naughton with Elliot Gould. Even rewatching the transformation scene earlier this morning after posting about it, I laughed because to me he looks just like him.

"Repetition works, David. Repetition works, David"

This would still get a Hard R for violence, sexual themes, and drug use, no way would it get a PG-13 today or tomorrow.

You should watch the Oliver Stone commentary on the Director's Cut. Almost everyone in the film from best Boy to Oliver Stone himself tripped balls while filming this. Stone's PA (I think it was his PA) talked about losing shit and getting lost at times because everyone was shrooming.

I love the end product. Without the cartoony stuff and over the top violence, I think most people wouldn't be able to stomach it. If you really want a mind explosion, watch NBK back to back with National Lampoon's Christmas Vacation. It's like J. Lewis is about to snap in every scene.

Well, maybe up until such a point as Naughton starts "acting". Gould's performance as Marlowe in The Long Goodbye ranks up as one of my favorites.

Snooty and slow. It also seems to have triggered an unhealthy fixation on Camilla Rutherford in me.
