Seriously, it is - in my opinion - the best track & field game, and EGM listed it as one of the best video games of all time in its 100th issue. Unfortunately, it does require quick and repeated button pressing; so, it may not be what you are looking for.

That does look cool, never though to look on the Sega Saturn. Doesn't seem to be too expensive either.

I used to love this arcade game called Numan Athletics. Here's a sample video. You are people with super human powers competing to show off your amazing strength and speed. It has a lot of the button mashing you don't like, but it's a unique entry in the track & field genre.

If you want to get away from button mashing gameplay, try Kinect Sports. It has a Track & Field section with javelin, discus, hurdles, long jump, and sprint. It feels more natural than button mashing because your are running and jumping in place or pretending to throw things.

Olympic games aren't a bad idea. I wonder how those Sonic/Mario ones are.

I'm kinda tempted to track down the Atari 2600 Track & Field with the special controller. That one looks interesting.

I've got the first one (wii version) and I enjoyed it. However it does boil down to the same thing, except you are shaking the whole controller instead of breaking buttons. Its a good one to break out at parties.

It is actually tied for least expensive game on Racketboy's "Cheapest Games" for the Sega Saturn. It is an easy - and essential - addition to any Sega Saturn collection.

This sounds like a high tech version of "World Class Track Meet" - which I should have mentioned earlier. That game is also a lot of fun if you still have a working Power Pad. (At least, I remember it being a lot of fun when I had a working Power Pad nearly a quarter century ago...)

EDIT: I am briefly saddened that discussion of track and field video games led to me to a personal meditation on age and mortality. If we start discussing other Power Pad games, I might also start to question my fundamental belief in a benign and merciful God; so, let's avoid that topic in this thread if at all possible.
