Has anyone here played Q.U.B.E? It's a first person puzzle game like portal and from the screen shots I've seen look really good. I just read that it's getting a premium physical release soon.

Actually this is the first I've heard of it. I enjoy the puzzle-based FPS like Portal and The Ball (which I beat back in early March...), so the more the merrier.

Anyway, I finally installed and played through Shogo - Mobile Armor Division. It was a competent FPS with a plot that at times seemed to make jumps I didn't follow easily, but the overall anime flavor was what really carried it through. There was a lot of creative weaponry, and thankfully enough distinction in action between the mech suits and the on foot segments to make them feel distinct, despite both being FPS elements of the same game.

My biggest complaint with the game was the enemy AI, which seemed either psychic and could shoot around corners, or wouldn't notice you until you had walked up to it, emptied a magazine into its face, kidnapped its mother, impregnated her forcefully in front of it, discovered she was pregnant, married her in accordance to Sharia law in certain countries, and then finally, after the main character had grown a full beard in accordance with the will of Allah and fathered multiple children with the AI's mother, discovered she had secretly flirted with another man, and then had her stoned....finally, the AI would notice you were there.

So anyway beyond that, the creative weapons, anime themes, unusual (if not hard to follow) plot, and the mixture of mech and foot-based combat make for a decent game with some problems, though still highly playable.

Yeah, grabbed Shogo off GOG awhile back when it first hit there. I played it back in the day and had a lot of fun with it. Totally forgot how brutal it could be at times though, I seriously felt like cheating at times. As you said, the AI was nuts and you'd die pretty quickly. Personally I enjoyed the mecha portions the most.

The story and anime elements were pretty hilarious. Honestly wish there was more like it.

Hmm...I sort of stalled in Bulletstorm, but that's because I've been playing Left 4 Dead 2 over Steam with fastbilly and another friend of ours from college.

Fun times.

I beat Resistance: Fall of Man and I've started Resistance 2.

Resistance 2 really feels like Call of Duty... but with aliens. You don't have a health bar and the enemies have little to no regard for their personal safety and often run straight into your gunfire.

Also, they added a run button. You moved fast enough in the first game; you're now walking 1/3 of the speed you were before... I hate run buttons. Screw 'em.

They did improve crouching though. You no longer have to hold the crouch button, which I find a tad bit more convenient. And the alien assault rifle is now incredibly accurate. I don't even use the tracking dart on it anymore.

And is it just me, or is there a crap-ton of ammo everywhere??

I've always heard that the first game is good as a standalone, but that the others shouldn't be touched.

Bullshit. Resistance is the second best single player FPS series this gen behind Bioshock (and might be third behind the Metro series, depending on how Last Light turns out).

Top 5 console-based Single Player FPS games this gen:

1. Metro 2033
2. Bioshock
3. Resistance 3
4. Killzone 3
5. Far Cry 2
Honorable Mention: Halo Reach
