What are some annoying things you remember about games that are otherwise solid-titles?
The slide-tile puzzles in Castlevania: Dawn of Sorrow for me. I could never do those dam things as a kid, and apparently I still can't. It broke the game for me. Which is a shame, because otherwise it was a fantastic Castlevania game up until that point.
Wire-tapping in Bionic Commando: Rearmed was confusing as hell for me. I still don't know what exactly I'm supposed to do. In the original NES version of the game you just had to have the right color communication device, and take the risk of possibly being discovered and ambushed as a result. Much simpler. But Rearmed was still a VERY fun game that more than paid respect to the original NES title.
Water-levels in Sonic the Hedgehog games. I freaking hate always having to worry about having enough air, or dying because you're trying to figure out which way to go next (again, because you ran out of air). It totally takes away from the fun of a Sonic game, the platforming. Otherwise, what's not to love about Sonic the Hedgehog games (at least the old-school ones I play)?
The projectile weapons in Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind. You had to have an incredibly high level in Marksmanship or else stealth shots simply weren't an option. The game would base your hit/miss ratio on your Marksmanship level, which wouldn't be that big of a deal except for the fact that if you miss the character you're targetting immediately knows where you're at! Otherwise Morrowind is an absolute masterpiece of action-RPG-ing. Oblivion got the stealth shots right, thankfully.

I have to say the fact that you had to absorb magic in Final Fantasy VIII. It completely ruined the game for me.
These are my finest threads. Please, enjoy:

Re: Annoying Things in Otherwise Great Games
I think Silent Hill 1-4 are technically very flawed games (combat, camera angles, horrible voice acting etc) but they all have great storylines and 1-3 all have great athmosphere, especially 1&2. It's funny how Yahtzee mentioned how Silent Hill 2 is actually as a game fairly shitty, but it's still one of the most respected and mature/intelligent video games of all time.
I guess this is sort of the opposite what you mean, but I think it's intresting how putting the player through some grievance rather than going through the instant gratification route, you can make a very unique and truly great gameplay experiences (Heart of Darkness, Max Payne nightmare's and so on). Some times if a game wasn't poorly designed/executed, it wouldn't be as brilliant as it is, if you know what I mean.

Fi from Skyward Sword. I enjoyed Skyward Sword, but hated Fi.

Not a game, but I've always been slightly bothered by the Dreamcast's lack of a reset button. Outstanding console, one of my favorites, but isn't that a bit strange?

I wish reset buttons were on controllers...but then I guess too many people would accidentally hit it somehow.Nintendork666 wrote:Not a game, but I've always been slightly bothered by the Dreamcast's lack of a reset button. Outstanding console, one of my favorites, but isn't that a bit strange?

Actually there is a reset combo on the controller-
Hold all the buttons and hit start.

Re: Annoying Things in Otherwise Great Games
The controller is a bigger deal in my opinnion. And it's not like you'd have to reset that many Dreamcast games. For some reason though the only way for me to load a save game in Kao the Kangaroo on Dreamcast is by reseting the whole console if I get a game over. Once the game first starts, it lets me load a save game, but after the first game over, it wont let me load the same save again. I've tried removing VMU, different controller slots etc.Nintendork666 wrote:Not a game, but I've always been slightly bothered by the Dreamcast's lack of a reset button. Metal grinding in mega man X8.
The fact that you cannot use the analog stick to move in Bangai-o for Dreamcast. In fact the analogue stick actually shoots....
The coin enemies in Bomberman 64 second attack: You not only get hurt by these guys but you get Stunned too. They can easily combo you to death!
The final boss in Tech romancer: this guy is the main reason why I don't play tech romancer more....You have to kill him 4 times(twice for each form). Thing is he only has to defeat you twice. His win counter does NOT reset when he goes to the second form. The fact that he is also a very cheap/difficult boss doesn't help....
