What was the last movie you've seen?

Did anyone see The Rum Diary? It's up on Instant Watch already, which instantly leads me to assume it's pretty dire.

I have not seen it, but I did not hear good things. I heard good things about Johnney Depp's performance, but that it wasn't enough to save the film.sabrage wrote:Did anyone see The Rum Diary? It's up on Instant Watch already, which instantly leads me to assume it's pretty dire.

The only Nolan film I hadn't seen. I liked it; it managed to retain its suspense despite announcing the killer right in the advertising. It was well-paced, fairly lean, the action scenes were great (and sparse) and I thought Pacino did an alright job despite the fact that I don't care for most of his post-Devil's Advocate work. I'd put it at second-to-last in the Nolan pantheon, right above Batman Begins.

If you are a die hard HST fan, it is watchable.sabrage wrote:Did anyone see The Rum Diary? It's up on Instant Watch already, which instantly leads me to assume it's pretty dire.

Laputa: Castle in the Sky
Disappointed with the HD transfer to be honest; Laputa looks like an upscaled job. However the story itself remains timeless, and the mesmerising music never grows old. A masterpiece at any resolution!

You probably didn't enjoy my Mexi-can joke then.sabrage wrote:What if I love HST, but hate Johnny Depp?Luke wrote:If you are a die hard HST fan, it is watchable.

I saw Prometheus last night ... and it was absolutely fantastic.
I had avoided pretty much all trailers of any kind. Apparently the TV spots being shown show some very big spoilers.
But I thought it was great. It's not flashy sci fi, which I liked a lot. It's more old style sci fi that really takes itself seriously and portrays a fantastical idea in a sensible tone.
Rather than just being flashy and actiony about it.
It's very much more Blade Runner than Transformers ... which I guess most people didn't like. :\
Also, the implications of what's in the film is absolutely geektastic. I love it.

Really good movie, though I wouldn't say I enjoyed it as much as recent martial arts films I've seen like the Ip Man movies or Chocolate. It's still a quality film. I think the story is a bit overdone and gets a bit melodramatic at times, but it's not bad overall and there are some kickass fight scenes. There are times though when the movie overdoes it in trying to create a certain feeling or drive home a certain theme. Subtlety is not this movie's strength, but it's a good, epic story overall. The performances are good (a couple of these faces seem familiar to me from other Asian movies). The soundtrack is great, especially the awesome end credits song. Plus, the overall look of the film and the production value are all pretty top notch. Some great set piece moments
One of the best things about the movie is not surprisingly this guy right here:

He gets one of the show stealing scenes, as he damn well should
