So this thread originally was people posting awesome deals, rare finds, or just generally special video game consoles, accessories, games, and related items or items that had a special story or meaning to their (re)acquisition. Then lots of posts were made where people just posted widely available things bought for average market prices (or overpaid). Sometimes it seemed that people just posted every time they bought anything game related whether it was a 20 year old sealed game for $1 at a garage sale or a $5 dog chewed second copy of SMB/Duck Hunt for the NES they keep in the bathroom to play when they're having a difficult bowel movement. A specialized tool that gets around security and into game hardware is interesting and belongs in this thread IMHO. A general use item that has 1 use out of 1000 that could be game related belongs elsewhere if one feels it is worth posting.
So arguments happened, opinions clashed, and out of frustration I changed the title to just Video Game "Look what I found" since people were going to post normal everyday purchases anyway.
Now we're have posts of things that are not video game related sneaking in. There is a thread for non video game things, I'm not sure why it is so hard to post non-game things there, video game things here, or separate into both if you want to share what you bought.
But omigod Hobie, why are you being such a Nazi? I mean geez, just ignore it and move on!
Don't people want to have things be in some semblance of order? If you're looking to discuss Sega stuff you don't want to have it hiding in the Nintendo section. If someone is having a technical issue, trying to find it in the help or modding sections is going to be easier than looking for it in the 'whatever' section. Maybe based on the pictures people put in the collection thread where games aren't in alphabetical order and don't even appear to be organized by genre or publisher I'm expecting too much of people. Thing is I am interested in seeing stuff people picked up if it is out of the ordinary. I (and others) just feel it should be put in the proper place. (Plus there's the whole being a mod thing)
Maybe I need to snip those first 2 words off this time?

Hobie, the issue is that dsh specifically responds to CRTs post, in this case in a very un-mod like manner, and it completey crashes the thread. 2nd time its happened.
Fucking PM someone if there is an issue with their post, don't mock them in the thread. It only makes things worse.

Re: Video Game "Look what I found"
Here is a thought, MOD, why didnt you just move the offending post to the proper category?
Jesus, this is all stupid, it is a fucking forum on the internet. This is not real life people, grow up and get past it when people dont post exactly how you like. Those with the problem are in the minority yet they seem to be getting all the attention. Is all of this worth it? Maybe we should just shut the whole damn forum down because a few people stretch the intentions of a thread.
Dont the whiners have lives outside of Racketboy? Maybe not, maybe your while life revolves around this. You feel this need to persecute everyone who does not follow your rules, are you like this to your friends and family?
GET OFF YOUR HIGH HORSE AND QUIT HARASSING PEOPLE.

Yeah man, how dare people have the unreasonable expectation that things posted in a video game finds thread actually relate to video games? They're just being jerks.

To everyone who says, "Why not just move on...?" With respect, you (poster of that question) didn't "move on" either, but rather added yet another post to the "incident".
Again, to everyone, it is the job of the moderator to be fair and consistent, and I think the mod team takes that very seriously, I think most members would be literally shocked at the amount of time put into the decisions that are made.
The reality is, posts are reported all the time, and we don't pick and choose when to enforce a rule. If a post is reported, and it should be moved, we'll move it. If it is reported and we think it's subjective, we'll talk about it and come to a consensus about what is the best and most consistent decision for the community as a whole. That is the only criteria used. Period.
Back on track, please - this may not be what it once was, but it is still a frequent water-cooler for many so let's keep it free of the ancillary stuff we all agree is of no benefit to the community.
@dunpeal - that PGM game looks amazing, nice find !

Re: Video Game "Look what I found"
I've been up and down the PM route with CRTGAMER before on a variety of issues (when I was a mod and after) all to no avail. Calling him out in public (for example about cross-posting and endless promoting) seems to be much more effective (and has culled those behaviors, I've noticed). I thought by doing it in a semi-comic way it would lighten the mood of the "reprimand" and if he had any sense of humor he'd get the point and adjust accordingly.dunpeal2064 wrote:Fucking PM someone if there is an issue with their post, don't mock them in the thread. So yes, let's move on and let's keep the thread about finds related to video games...but let's not turn this little fracas into a bigger thing than it needs to be. We should continue to self-moderate as a community as often as possible without annoying the mods with any and every little thing (which this clearly was).

Re: Video Game "Look what I found"
I found a Sega Saturn with cords, a Dreamcast with 2 controllers, 1 VMU, Crazy Taxi, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, and Dead Or Alive (plus a few more I don't remember), a Sega Genesis with 5 controllers, Sonic 1, 2, 3, Sonic and Knuckles, and Eternal Champions at a yard sale.
All of it was for one price. Free. The things you can get when people are closing down their sales because people weren't buying anything.
