Somewhere on the internet this was written in 2009 and the guys at Square-Enix read it and went all:

Then one year later we had:

And they were like:

Mission accomplished.

At least they're fixing/fixed it into being a good game.

How did that go along exactly? I heard them making a schedule for it and sort of never heard of it again.

I guess they're over-hauling the whole PC game and set to release the console versions along with the PC revision. I've said it before, I think the only way FFXIV could be a success if if they go F2P. It has been so universally panned, that I feel like they're nuts to expect the kind of subscriber-base that they got with XI.

Because Japanese developers are known to quickly adapt. Specially when it comes to online games.

Let's face it, the only reason Square isn't going bankrupt is the fact that the Final Fantasy name alone still shifts copies (though less and less with each iteration of the franchise) and the fact that Eidos turned out a muuuuch more valuable purchase than first thought (Deus Ex, Just Cause, and probably Tomb Raider).

The 2.0 relaunch isn't until this fall. From what I've heard, the game has gotten better already, but SE is typically very slow to learn/adapt. Not exactly an ideal MMO producer. It'll probably be solid at launch for 2.0, and actually really good in another 2-3 years, if XI's progress is an indication.

I really wish Square could hire some good writers. FF XIII-2 impresses on so many levels. Aside from a few annoyingly tedious parts of the game, it plays well enough. The graphics and sound are great, though the soundtrack can get a little too emo and melodramatic at times. In fact, this is indicative of the story too. It gets way too sappy at times. Trying to tug at your heart strings and failing miserably because it's hard to feel anything for these characters when they are in such a crappy story.

I don't want to spoil anything for Xenoblade players, but in like the first half hour of play there is an emotional moment involving a certain character that actually made me feel something. In like 30 damn minutes they pulled that off and I'm almost done with FF XIII-2's main storyline and just rolling my eyes whenever the story tries for an emotional moment.

Now, I've got my complaints with Xenoblade too. Neither it nor FF XIII-2 are perfect games, but few it any of my current issues with Xenoblade have anything to do with its story. It handles itself pretty well on that front.

And the story only gets better. Unlike XIII (and I'll assume XIII-2), where it just got worse the further you got.

Yeah, that's become the norm with FF XIII and its sequel, the story just gets worse and worse as it goes.

What's really a shame is that I actually like Noel and Serah (FF XIII-2's main characters). It's just that they are saddled with a completely ridiculous, nonsensical story, and an overly dramatic, Sephiroth wannabee villain who makes me role my eyes every single time he shows up in the story.

I could sum up Final Fantasy XIII-2's entire story as a really, really badly written Doctor Who episode. Everything that exemplifies bad time travel stories is on full display in FF XIII-2. I could sum it all like this:
