How about one of these?

Much cheaper than first party, and they work great in my experience. Mine is a year old now. I paid about $40 new for it. They're $50 now. Still worth it.
Questions about 360 Slim HDD
Re: Questions about 360 Slim HDD
Only slightly sketchy since it shows a regular microsoft drive but says later it is a third party.
Re: Questions about 360 Slim HDD
They are most definitely 3rd party. Mine came in knock off packaging, but it works great. In the end it's still a 250GB laptop HDD inside a little enclosure. With the right firmware to work with a Xbox 360KDub wrote:Only slightly sketchy since it shows a regular microsoft drive but says later it is a third party.
Re: Questions about 360 Slim HDD
So, I did it with out a guide, you can use one to figure out what size of screw the enclosure uses (I just manhandled it), other than that you don't need a guide. The drive literally just plugs into a daughterboard at the bottom of the HDD opening. I used a 20GB drive like the one that CCFJR is offering to sell ya. I admit I haven't tried any oXbox games on this setup, but it should be no different then a Slim drive in this respect. I believe I have Breakdown I can try when I get a moment though.noiseredux wrote:@Stark: did you find a good guide with pics or anything to help you through it? What size drive did you use? And you can confirm it's worked with oXbox games?

Re: Questions about 360 Slim HDD
from what I've read, 3rd party drives do not work with oXbox games Erik. Only the real MS drives have the proper partition on them needed to run Xbox games.ZenErik wrote:How about one of these?

At any rate, I'm on the fence on whether I should get an old HDD and do the extra steps and probably need to upgrade it not too far down the road, or if I should just get a nice big new HDD...
Re: Questions about 360 Slim HDD
Interesting. I guess I never paid attention to that part because I have a Japanese console. So I would probably have to import Japanese versions of any oXbox games I were interested in... Not happening.noiseredux wrote:

I would try to find a used one then. $130 doesn't seem worth it to me for a brand new slim HDD
Re: Questions about 360 Slim HDD
I haven't, but the comments on the knock-off Slim HDD enclosures you can get for a few bucks on Amazon indicate that plenty of people have.noiseredux wrote:so I need an HDD for my Slim in order to run oXbox games on it. I've heard you can somehow take the older (cheaper) fat model HDD's out of their enclosure and use them in a Slim. Questions:
1. Has anyone done this?
2. It works for running original Xbox games?
3. How easy is it to do this?
AFAIK, the Slim just has a standard SATA connector in the bay, and the case just serves as a brace to keep the thing steady.

This is correct.isiolia wrote: AFAIK, the Slim just has a standard SATA connector in the bay, and the case just serves as a brace to keep the thing steady.

right, but you need an official MS 360 HDD in order to make oXbox games work on it.ZenErik wrote:This is correct.isiolia wrote: AFAIK, the Slim just has a standard SATA connector in the bay, and the case just serves as a brace to keep the thing steady.
Re: Questions about 360 Slim HDD
Yea. You mentioned that. So I suggested getting a used slim HDD. Unless you don't think you'll need the space. I use over 100GB on my HDD because I install all disc releases. Plus I have quite a few XBLA releases and some iDOLM@STER DLC.
If you don't install any games even a small 20GB might be fine. Unless some games require an install? I have no idea. May just be a PS3 thing.
