The truck near SS Anne having mew under it was pretty infamous. The way I remember it is you had to surf to the truck (which was there 0_0) and then use strength on it to push it out of the way to reveal Mew. I so bought it, spent a whole run through of the game getting to the point I could try it.

I remember another rumour about 'Bill's Secret Garden' you could get to outside the back of his house. You could apparently catch togepi and mew there. I didn't buy this one though, because I was knowledgable enough about Pokémon to know Toegpi wasn't in the game.

I find it funny that, years later, I actually CAN catch a mew in my pokémon red and blue cartridges: http://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~jdonald/po ... litch.html .

Despite where the guide says, you can actually do this trick before you even fight misty.

Yup. I remember that.

I was in an arcade at the Fish 'n Fry (why do I remember that name?) campground in S.Dakota near Sturgis as a kid (1990?) and was talking to a slightly older kid. He told me that if you enter the name "Justin Bailey" as a password in Metroid that you get to play as Samus in her swimsuit. I didn't believe him. I think I tried it, but wasn't sure what to put on the second line... so I just wrote Justin Bailey twice. It didn't work, so I figured he was just full of it. A later issue of Nintendo Power confirmed that he was right.

I also remember hearing that Japan got a different version of Super Mario Bros. 2, that was more like the original game. I also remember thinking that one was BS. :D

Funny... my examples turned out to NOT be urban legends.

I have two things i remember. The first one is that if you don't touch king hippo in the stomach and only hit him in his face in m.t punch out for the nes he will get up after the 9 coun't once you knock him down.
The second one is to be rumored that a small company that is the underdog named sega will release a new system called dreamcast 2. I'm still waiting to see if it's true or not :(

Nude Sonja in MK, of course.

I remember a lot of crazy rumors circulating about Night Trap. Basically that it was way more badass than it really is. Something like you are the dad of the family and ninja robbers are holding your family hostage so you gotta grab the shotgun in the bedroom and then he says "Let's get these motherfuckers"

I also remember one of my friends telling me about this genesis fighting game that was supposed to blow Mortal Kombat out of the water but it was never released because after you defeat the final boss you grab his wife from the audience and rape her in front of everyone  I really wish I could remember the bogus title he came up with

I love how, reading these, it seems the internet has done little to squash urban legends. That's probably because we want to believe them.

I heard the Dreamcast 2 rumour as well. I also heard it'll be launching with Radiant Silvergun 3 and a new Parodius game co-developed by Cave ;) (Since we're on the subject, I figure I'd might as well get a couple new urban legends started.)

I seem to recall something I did from a rumor in Mario 64 that was along the lines of getting 100 coins (or even more- max count?) in the Bowser fight levels, and that to do that you had to do some trickery with the mines so as to not beat Bowser but get the coins.

Unless I'm way wrong, I feel like I tried to do it and after forever it didn't accomplish anything. I was disappointed. Am I wrong in my memory of a way to get countless coins in these stages?

Playing as Master Hand in Melee was another I remember.

They get totally nude. That isn't an urban legend.
