The Saturn version is better than the DC version. They had to cut frames of animation on the DC one, where they are all totally there in the Saturn port. Also, the characters on the Saturn one are the original large size. They are smaller on the DC. Finally, the Saturn one runs at the same resolution as the arcade, and is the only port to do so.
[Saturn>>>DC>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>PS1]

Modified slightly, but yes, agree wholeheartedly w/Breetai's assessment. There's a reason the SAT version sells for the same price as the arcade board...and the DC version sells for 15% of that. More powerful and cleaner graphics are not always better and certainly are not indicative of a better port.
@OP - this is a nice idea for a thread...but there are probably 100+ playable JP exclusives, perhaps a restart of games available ONLY on SAT-J hardware or perhaps just refined by genre. When we are going back and forth about said 100+ games, it is tough to get much traction, but rather a hodgepodge of disconnected conversations. Just a thought.
anyone know if the japanese version of deep fear is playable for someone who doesnt know a lick of japanese? i see its so cheap compared to the pal version

what i did was modded my saturn, bought the japanese version, then downloaded the unreleased US version.
If you can find a copy and you like pinball, try picking up Kyuutenkai Fantasic (sic) Pinball. It's a Technosoft game and it isn't a shooter (weird, huh?). It's a pretty fun, cartoony pinball game. I rather like it and when I got it about 12 years ago it was pretty darn cheap.

I've been watching a few vids on YouTube of this game, and it looks like all the menu are in English, as are the cut scenes. There is some Japanese text but it looks like it is playable without being able to read Japanese. Since the PAL version is gonna cost me £150 I think the import is the way to go for me.

I should let you know that deep fear is one of those games where you cant progress to the second disc if you are using an action replay. So i hope you have a japanese saturn or a region switch.
Curlypaul wrote:Really? I didn't know of this problem. Are there any other games like this?
i believe lunar is another one but that ones basically unplayable if you dont know japanese, basically any multidisc game that doesnt ask you to save right before it asks you to switch discs.
