what i'm running these days (not 56k friendly)

Post by nickfil »

Here is what I'm running these days. I'm still kinda keeping my eye out for good solutions to keeping games on shelves in a less cluttered manor.

Sorry for the blurry pictures- took them with my iphone and I don't have another camera

Upstairs in the bedroom: Tube tv becuase i love light gun games.
And the saturn is modded. Looking to mod my xbox and dreamcast next.

Image

left side: Mostly odds and ends. I don't own a colecovision, but i seem to have everything else for it. Got the wheel, and roller controller. As well as a slew of games. The box has loose old carts i pick up when i see them cheap. Some I'm not even really sure what they go to. Some don't even have labels. Also some complete intellivsion games i kinda fell into. Extra dremacast, genesis 1 and 2(not pictured), 2 32x systems somewhere back there, a sega saturn. They are all crammed in like tetris in there.

Image

Image

right side: Extra gamecube, some boxed dreamcast controllers, Stack of controllers and guns. More controllers in boxes.

Shelf of games: on top of it are doubles that i have yet to photograph and put on the buy/sell/trade form here. Bottom shelf is some overflow from the bookshelf and the stack of 'to read' comics.

Image

********

Downstairs in the living room

I made a mistake on the image- the tv is 1080p.

Image

There was an old fireplace in the room that got covered, so there is a small recession in the wall where i put up some shelves for games. From left to right all complete, nes xbox xbox360 gamecube ps2 wii

Image

the coffee table opens up to store controllers and extension cables.

Image

***********

for shits and giggles- the studio

Although i really love my setup that i have already, the end goal is to run a second tube tv with the first kinda like I saw major do. I want to link up 2 gamecubes and ilink 2 fat ps2s. Get some 8 player double dash and separate 2 player guncon games. In like 5 to 10 years or so i'll probably get a second xbox or 2 ps3s and get a second flat screen. I kinda love gaming with people that are actually in the room rather than online so i'm trying to build the best kinda setup for it.

I've only been really seriously collecting games for a couple years now so I don't really have any gaming gems yet. Keeping my eye out though.

On the lookout these days for a sega master system, sega cd for the genesis 1, and a colecovision

Simply one awesome setup. I kept scrolling down, saying to myself, "pretty cool, pretty neat" until I got to the bottom, at which point I have to ask:

WTF do you do that utilizes 10GB of ram?

Anyhow, great setup, I like the fact that you are trying to make gaming spaces where everyone can hang out. Don't you just love it when you friends are over, and you want to play Halo 3 so everyone goes home to play online? :P

If he does anything with video or graphics, i.e. rendering, then the 10gb of RAM is VERY useful.
Somebody sell me a model 1 modchip for Saturn. Please.

Nice set up man. A little bit of everything. I'd be intersted to see what games are in your collection....especially your genesis and Sega cd stuff....can only make out a few titles.

I could say that i use it for work but thats only kinda half true. I color comic books for a living and although my old g5 was decent and could handel MOST things, it couldn't do all of it. If it was a complex fractial filter that i wanted to throw down for magic on a guy or something like that, it couldn't do it. Even blurs on something that is 600DPI were touch and go. So when i was shopping for a new computer i came across a site that had cheap cheap ram and backed it for life. Figured I had the money and i might as well.

Plus- i find that when buying computers, if you can go big you kinda have to. I hate upgrading later in the computer's life. I also have been half interested in getting out of comics and into video games at some point, so that was in the back of my mind. Bottom line i just wanted something that would run like a fucking tank that I wouldn't have to worry about for a long long time.

I'll post up some titles when i get a moment. Probably later in the week when i post up the stuff for sale/trade that i have. I actually didn't own any sega cd or 32x stuff until a couple months ago when i just happened to go into a thrift store at the same time a mom was dropping off her son's collection. Bought the lot. Still haven't played a good amount of them. Haven't touched any of the 32x stuff. That damn machine is a pain in the ass now that its old. If something doesn't work or just needs to be cleaned there is like 7 different points that could be the problem. Even though i have 2 that work, most of the time i don't even bother.

I played the first 5 minutes of snatcher when i got it home. Then i saw that it was on the retro gaming list so i'm saving it. Thats the one i'm most looking forward to.

I really love your collection man! Especially the Sega CD games. You must have the coolest job on the planet, and that computer is incredible.

That's some awesome furniture to hold all that. My collection has started spilling off the tv stand and onto the floor. I've actually got an Atari 2600 jr, Sega Saturn, Xbox and Gamecube on the floor, just because I have no where else to put them. At least they're all hooked up and ready to play.

I'd be kind of worried about yanking those consoles off the upper shelves when playing them though.

decent furniture is a must.

I have quite a few extension cables for the saturn and dreamcast so i don't worry too much about yanking them down as i can get a good 18+ feet. Everything else is wireless. I'd like to get a pair of wireless controllers for the saturn eventually, but they seem scarce. The intellivision is short short cables, and the controllers are wired into the console with short cables. That system demands that you are close to the tv. It is the only one not plugged in, because there is really no easy way to store it, plus i don't play it often.
