There are a few levels in the original Ninja Gaiden, where if you move two the far left of the screen you can see what looks like a hidden level.

I tried for at least an hour trying to get to the "hidden level" in what I think was level 2-2.

I miss the days of all the gta san andreas myths like the ghost in the abandoned wheelchair, ufos, and of course the elusive yeti. That game was just so huge for its time. Gta 4 seems so small compared to it i hope gta 5 brings back the feel of san andreas. And of course bring back all the myths

I remember all sorts of different ones. When Mortal Kombat first introduced fatalities, everyone would say how Street Fighter 2 had them also.

The chain hanging down in Zangief's level? Anyone? I used to hear rumors that as you beat your opponent in that level, you could chain them up and basically "hang them" as a sort of fatality. Also, there was something with the rock in Chun-Li's level. You could pick it up and throw it as the story went.

I thought these were pretty believable, as these were the only objects in the game that were part of the foreground of the stages, and never quite "meshed" with the rest of the graphics.

No one believed me at the time, but I actually saw him once. Of course, now we know that it was just a glitch in the program of the original hardware, but still a cool myth non the less.

Which MK did he first appear in as a glitch? I never knew this!

He was a glitch in the original MK arcade hardware. The way that I understand it is, if the game had been on for so long without being restarted, the internal memory would get full and wasn't able to dump properly.

so sometimes when you would find Reptile, he would show up in Scorpions yellow costume, and have all of Reptiles abilities, but the name would show up as "ERMAC" which was internal code for Error Macro.

Rumor has it that it didn't have to be Reptile either. Sometimes it would randomly happen when you'd pick either of the 2 playable ninjas. But for whatever reason, always wearing Scorpion's yellow costume. Of course, it was a huge thing, so the creators put him as a normal character in subsequent games.

It was actually rumored to be an April Fool's joke, until someone actually took a picture of it (remember, before cel phones and cameras built in) and sent it to GamePro I think it was. Then the creators figured out what was happening and told the magazine why "ERMAC" was showing up on some hardware. (I'm pretty sure that they fixed the glitch in later versions, which kind of sucks)

I spent a lot of time trying to get mew in Pokemon Blue.

The worst one was the April fools joke from EGM that said you could play as Akuma in RE2. I spent a lot of time beating that game the 7 times only to find out it was fake.

For a little while I thought that General Leo actually was a hidden character in Final Fantasy VI.

This is possible, sorta. I remember finding this glitch on my own, and no one believed me. I even sent it in to Nintendo Power, back in the day. The game freaks out and sometimes, one of your party might turn into Gen. Leo, with some real wacky powers.
