Snickerd00dle's Summer Challenge 2012 - how is it going?
Re: Snickerd00dle's Summer Challenge 2012 - have you started
Okay, I have safely passed the part of Metroid Prime 2 where I have always given up and I am starting to see a lot about this game that I actually like more than the original.
For starters, the aesthetics are unbelievable. Tallon IV in Metroid Prime felt like just a random collection of environments. Aether in Prime 2 feels like this distinctive and very alien planet. It's much more convincing and I actually am stopping to admire the scenery from time to time.
Secondly, I love the lay out of the game. I don't feel like I am constantly looking for an elevator to take me where I want to go - it does not feel tedious walking from place to place. Yet.

Maybe now Nintendo will acknowledge Metroid has a fanbase?

Today I put in a couple hours into Beneath a Steel Sky.
I finished the second virtual reality interface section where you get the tuning fork and have to say that I am not that impressed.
The objects you need to find and use do not stick out and most of them I stumble upon by chance but almost all of them are used. I am more of a fan of the Lucas Arts or Sierra style games where you pick up tons of items and only use half of them but they are all pretty easy to find. The puzzles are easy but the items are hard to find.
I am digging the story and since I am a decent way into the game I will pick it back up and finish it before the summer ends.
Now it's time to refocus on Cave Story until I beat that.

how far are you now? I'm still at the Misery/Doctor battles... I think I need a little push to finish it up though.SpaceBooger wrote: Now it's time to refocus on Cave Story until I beat that.

I only really got stuck (read: used a walkthrough) at two parts. I wouldn't recommend any adventure game that I considered esoteric or pointlessly difficult.SpaceBooger wrote:Today I put in a couple hours into Beneath a Steel Sky.

I just got done saving the dogs and found the cure all in the labyrinth. I don't know how close that is to you or how far I am into it, but I have been enjoying it.noiseredux wrote:how far are you now? I'm still at the Misery/Doctor battles... Just started Blackthorne; already in the 6th area. I forgot how dreary and hopeless the atmosphere of this game feels.

I started Grim Fandango today. I'm not very far and I'm already struggling - trying to get a good client. I know I need to sabotage Domino's post tube in some way, and I think it has to do with the fire extinguiser I just got, but I just cant put two and two together atm. No hints though please!

Once you get the hang of it, it might be hard to go at it for only 15 minutes. It does get hard, but I've not yet encountered an area that needed more than 5-10 minutes to get through. It's just that you can hit a spot where you keep dying, but each attempt only takes a few seconds. That's much better, imo, than the "do the whole level again" games, but then again, there's no real levels here. Glad you're liking it!noiseredux wrote:been playing some VVVVVV... shit's amazing, but gets hard as hell. Thank goodness for save spots.
