Agni's Philosophy - "Next Gen" Final Fantasy tech demo.

Post by Phades »

This may just be a pipe dream, but Square-Enix is passing this off as a real-time demo of what a next-gen Final Fantasy will look like.

If this is legit, holy crap am I ready for the new consoles :)
Looks crazy expensive to develop a game for though.

My first reaction of course is "PS3 announcement...."

Really beautiful stuff.

Of course, the Final Fantasy XIII trailers blew my mind when they were first released, and that apparently didn't go very well.

I'll be optimistic though. The stuff we are starting to see with facial expressions in games ever since LA Noire has been really cool, and if they are doing this in realtime, then all the better. It would be nice to see characters emote something in game and character emotion expression has come a long way in games since the early days of twirling jumps (although, it would be hilariously awesome if Final Fantasy characters still did that with the modern tech). This will really help the soap-opera nature of Final Fantasy games.

I'm not sure how to react to stuff like this. The video looks very nice and pretty and technically impressive.... but so what? It in no way indicates the quality of the actual game and given the direction Final fantasy has taken I have little faith that this title will actually be good.

Besides, I'll take cell-shading or hand-drawn anime over this style of graphics any day.

Get off my lawn.

It isn't a preview for any kind of game, it's just a tech demo people.

The entire point is to oggle at the real-time graphics.

As a tech demo it was really cool. But it raises all kinds of questions in my mind. What kind of hardware set up was that running on? How does that compare to the specs of the WiiU (which are unknown), or the inevitable PS4 and Xbox 720? Just how much would they have to tone things down to get it on current consoles? How will this engine affect gameplay (if at all)?

I'm loving the art. We've still got some anime influence, but the detail and realism is great. And the beard hairs.

Not sure if I could even play a game like this. I'd just stare at it. This could be a great movie...you know, if it was well-written. It would be wasted on something like Advent Children.
