I see what you're saying about Keaton's Bruce Wayne, and I have to agree. He does come of as you described, and it does fit the movie, quite well. But at the same time, I also agree with Luke; because Bruce Wayne isn't supposed to be like that. He's supposed to play the careless billionaire playboy and be good at it while he's Bruce Wayne so that people will never suspect him being the Batman, and in Bale's portrayal he captures that perfectly.Gamerforlife wrote:I don't know. I just felt that Keaton really looked the part, and he didn't have that stupid, exaggerated Batman voice. That's a Bale thing. Even Kevin Conroy in the animated series never did that. Hell, none of the Batman voice actors in any of the animated shows or movies did that.Luke wrote:He looks the exact same way when he's trying to vacuum in MR.MOM and when he does calisthenics in GUNG-HO.Gamerforlife wrote:
I think the reason I liked Keaton more as Batman is because he always had this haunted look on his face. He really looked like a guy with a messed up child hood. Plus, he was appropriately awkward as Bruce Wayne, since it's not who he really is.
Bruce is also a playboy, and I didn't get a lot of an awkward feel from either Bale's nor Keaton's performance.
Keaton's Bruce is plenty awkward. He often seems distracted, like he's never fully there, and acts strange around the ladies like Vicki Vale and Selina Kyle. Bale seems way too comfortable when he's doing the millionaire playboy role with the girls in the restaurant in Batman Begins. Keaton makes you feel that it's an effort to be Bruce. He's always thinking of putting the cowl back on and fighting crime or doing some detective work.

Sleeping Beauty

Absolute, utter shit. There are plenty of (mediocre) boobies throughout the film, but that couldn't save it. Emily Browning is (to me) very average looking but still very pretty, and even with her full frontal nudity, this movie is 300% boring. The film is apparently the writer/director's debut, and what a stinker. The structure of the film is:
1. film 3 minutes of a scene where nothing happens... fade to black.
2. film 3 minutes of another completely unrelated scene... fade to black.
3. hint at how the main character is a free-wranglin' girl who will work for nearly any job, and fuck just about anyone she needs to in order to make a buck.
4. refer to and repeat steps 1-3.
There is little to no plot to this film. It's like it wanted to be the little cousin to Kubrick's Eyes Wide Shut but without the gumption. The ending makes 0 sense. I don't mean that in a "what did Donnie Darko mean to you" sense, but rather, you're just left with... OK? And then? Oh... credits.
Stupid, insipid, boring, nearly silent. It was like the entire film was an establishing shot of a bowl of grapes. Awful. Plenty of nice tits, but awful. Just awful.

Getting revived by cats for some reason makes sense?Gamerforlife wrote: I like how Catwoman was portrayed [in Batman Returns] personally. She was a tortured soul like Bruce, and had a reason for becoming Catwoman that made some sense.
My issue with Keaton's Bruce is that he's a bit too awkward. He comes across as a person who's most definitely hiding something, and it's really no surprise that people in that universe seem to figure out who he is so easily.
When Bale plays up the playboy role, it's pretty much entirely to remove any suspicion that he might Batman. He intentionally comes across as a careless, self-absorbed playboy who blows his money on random crap nonstop. Nobody would believe that would be the kind of person who's really a crime fighter. If he's got strange injuries, people assume it's because he's a wreckless thrillseeker.
As for the voice thing, though... Kevin Conroy was the first to use a deeper voice when playing Batman vs Bruce Wayne. I can see what Bale's doing there, even if it's a bit too over the top.
Re: What was the last movie you've seen?
Great points brought up, I'm leaning towards Keaton's Batman. The awkwardness when not in the cape really adds to his personality as a kind of tortured inside, content only when underground. When the movie came out I thought Keaton would be a horrible choice, but turned out to be the ideal actor once his dark side shows up while wearing the mask.<Batman>
Now what about the Joker? Loved both!

How many of you guys who really love it saw Batman '89 when it was new/when you were very young?
I'm just asking because I have zero nostalgia for it. I watched the cartoon a bunch as a kid, but pretty much ignored the live action movies.

I saw both Batman 89 and Batman Returns when they originally came out. I also started watching the animated series when it first started airingAppleQueso wrote:How many of you guys who really love it saw Batman '89 when it was new/when you were very young?

Now that I think about it, Burton may solely be responsible for me becoming a big Batman fan.
I can't remember when it was that I started seeing syndicated episodes of the Adam West Batman show as well. Being a kid, I didn't mind the campiness of it. When I see it now, I get some nostalgic enjoyment from it, but I much prefer dark, serious Batman now as an adult. That's what I never got into Batman the Brave and the Bold
I think it's only in maybe the last decade that I actually started reading Batman comic books. So my first exposure to the character was TV and movies

I saw it when it was new, but I was also only 6 years old when it came out, so I don't really remember it.AppleQueso wrote:How many of you guys who really love it saw Batman '89 when it was new/when you were very young?

I loved the films when I was a kid and would watch Batman and Batman Returns on VHS over and over again. I still have a little car model of the Batmobile.BurningDoom wrote:I saw it when it was new, but I was also only 6 years old when it came out, so I don't really remember it.AppleQueso wrote:How many of you guys who really love it saw Batman '89 when it was new/when you were very young?

So, BLACK PANTHER 2014. The Marvel universe isn't mucking around are they? I would have preferred a LUKE CAGE movie starring Terry Crews, but this sure is an interesting move.
