What with the save restrictions on rpgs lately? Feels like all modern games do these days is place more and more restrictions on players
I find modern save restrictions strange, considering we have more room for saving than at any other time. On a SNES cart, a three-save limit makes sense. On a 4GB SD card, not so much.
I agree with you. It's quite strange

Oh, how I've missed FF XIII's awesome combat system. Think I'm going to enjoy FF XIII-2

I think the intent is to prevent save scumming. And in XIII-2 there is no reason to have multiple save slots since you can 100% the game relatively easily thanks to the ability to close and reopen a gate (restart the level, essentially). Definitely a nice change compared to X-2's "better be following a guide every inch of play or you have to new game+ to get 100%".

Well if he's like me, he's paranoid that the save game will glitch or the game will glitch in some way as to be unplayable And then you have to start over.
Let strength be granted, so the world might be mended...so the world might be mended.

Yeah, that's part of it. Though I intend to have a back up save on USB. It's really more what MrPopo said though, but it seems the structure of the game should mean that I don't have to worry about missing anything. He's not the first person to have said this, so that's comforting. Most FF games by nature require a guide to get everything, and most don't even give you the luxury of a new game plus like FF X2 did.

It's comforting that FF XIII 2 lets you replay areas, and Xenoblade I've heard has a NG+. I hope this sort of thing becomes the norm for the genre. I'm playing both games right now, and I enjoy not having to worry too much about missing anything in either game, though I do have some other little complaints about Xenoblade and probably will for FF XIII-2 as well knowing me

Yeah, but if your goal is backing up saves you're better off copying your file to a different device entirely, rather than a second save file on the machine. I can't remember off the top of my head, but it's possible that some games don't even use separate hardware files for separate in-game save files, so having multiple save files offers no protection.

That's very true. I do this regularly (backing up to a separate device). Some games don't allow it though, which annoys the hell out of me. I live in an area where power outages are a regular part of life. The last thing I want is for one to happen during a save one day, corrupt my data, and not have another file on another device to fall back on.

If you're really worried about power outages mid-save you can always get a UPS for your console.

Little note for Stark if he plans on playing this at some point, I have heard that it is possible to screw up stats when leveling. So while nothing is missable, that's something I am going to be wary of as I play. Apparently, you get different stat bonuses depending on what choices you make. I'm going to try and shoot for max stat boosts
