Party affinity also unlocks skill links, increases the duration of gem crafting, and increases the frequency of chain links. It unlocks additional heart-to-hearts and affects how often you party members jump into conversation when you're accepting or rejecting sidequests.

Yep, having a full party with high affinity is really awesome. Chain links left and right.

An insanely easy way to build up the party gauge is to use attacks that hit multiple enemies around you at once. So like Reyn's War Swing, etc.

You guys got any tips on gem crafting. I generally don't like item creation systems in rpgs. I much prefer my games just giving me items and equipment as my reward for beating enemies and accomplishing missions. I've been putting off gem crafting because I just viewed it as nuisance, but now I have so many of those damn crystals that every time I open a treasure chest I'm being told my inventory full. That's one thing I liked about Final Fantasy XIII, your inventory never got full. I'm not a fan of inventory limits in rpgs.

Should I just sell most of these crystals off? My party has been handling itself just fine without resorting to gem crafting at all. I've just made use of whatever gems I've come across from side quests and battles and put them in whatever empty slots were available in my parties' equipment. Do you guys have some tips on what sorts of gems I should make? Is it even worth gem crafting this early in the game? I've only just recently arrived at Colony 6. My party is close to level 30 and my current three person team have high affinity with each other (thanks to someone telling me about the gift system). I've been pretty much whooping ass on everything I've faced so far, including unique monsters (though avoiding the ones that are much higher level than me).

Gift system?

If you're doing fine you don't really need to worry about gem crafting then. Just sell them. Once you get level 3 gems and up, it's not a bad idea to start messing with it then. Plus you probably won't have the mobile gem creator until that point anyways, makes it more convenient.

Always use Shulk and Rayn to get the best results. And yeah sell the ones which are kind of useless unless for special cases, and craft the ones which give more hp more damage ect.

If you can get Night Vision gems, or spike resistance gems, those are pretty crucial for some of the optional monsters late in the game.

Grrr, now my equipment inventory is full. This is really annoying. I've gotten used to how streamlined things are in Final Fantasy games. You never have to worry about your inventory being full. Also, what's with the equipment screens? So backward and outdated, you never get a real sense of how much of an improvement a certain piece of equipment is over another. They highlight stats that are increased, but don't show you by how much like other rpgs I've played do(again, FF comes to mind). I have all this crap in my equipment inventory and can't make sense out of what's good and what isn't it. Also,why are items labelled with the letters S and U. I don't think the game has ever explained that. I figure U is for unique, what is S for? Special? Special how?

There should be a way to organize the eqiupment, the C button I believe should bring up a menus. The best equipment is always brought up on the top left.

U is unique meaning it has a stat increase, and S is for slot meaning you get at least one slot to equip a gem to your weapon.

Ah, that's actually helpful. Perhaps I'll just sell off anything that's not unique. Presumably I can just acquire it again.
