Nintendo Direct

Post by pankakes123 »

Well I just finished watching this year's Nintendo Direct, and to my surprise it was more than just a teaser for E3, though it does have me even more excited now. My favorite part was the reveal of the Wii U Pro Controller.

What are your thoughts on Nintendo Direct this year?

If you haven't seen it, you can watch it here:

Well, that pro controller looks pretty neat. Like a hybrid of the 360 pad and the Dual Shock 3.

Honestly, I don't know why they felt they had to change the Wii Classic Controll Pro so much. It is a very comfortable controller, it just needs a few things like wireless connectivity and rumble support.

That being said, the Wii U Pro controller does look pretty nice. I wonder how it'll feel. It's pretty much the same layout as the Classic Controller Pro only the joysticks are reversed with the D-pad and ABXY buttons. I wonder if it'll be comfortable like that. Also, looks like it can connect wirelessly (having to plug a controller into the Wiimote really sucks). And is that a USB port on top (for charging I guess)?

I didn't watch the video... did they mention it having rumble support?

If Nintendo went all out redesigning this controller, I wonder if that means more games will support it. And if so, hopefully first party games as well. My only really complaint with the Wii was when you were forced to use motion controls instead of the tradition Classic Controller. Mario Galaxy would have been a lot better if you could have used the Classic Controller Pro for it, IMHO. But if Nintendo is making that big ass controller with a screen in it, you can bet anything they're gonna be using it to its full extent for their first party games. I can only cross my fingers and hope they make the games with an option to use the Pro controller.

The Wii U Pro controller does look really nice. It got me a little more excited about the Wii U. :D

My guess is that they wanted to match the Wii U GamePad's control layout so that jumping between the two would be seamless.

I agree though, I hope we have the option to use standard controls more if we want to. Nintendo never seemed to realize that waggle to replace a button press isn't really intuitive.

I'll hold my judgements until I try the Wii U controller. If it's comfy enough I see no reason why you'd need the CCP.

It's yet to be seen if the Wii U supports more than one GamePad, so it might be relevant for multiplayer at least. I think the CCP has a bit more distance between the analog sticks and other stuff, plus I'd imagine shoulder buttons/triggers might be more comfortable on it...but yeah, have to see.

I'd imagine the CCP is the route they'll go for multiplayer. But since I'm rarely able to play in the same room as somebody else, it's not too relevant for me.

I like the looks of this. Am I the only one that hated the octagonal sticks on the gamecube and classic controller? I've never seen it brought up here or any where online before but I hate that shit round is the way to go.

The only time I find the octagonal stick of the GC controller worthwhile is during those 2D gaming sessions I have (mainly Neo Geo VC)
